Underdog Fantasy Parlay – August 23, 2022

We were 2 Ks away from a first bet W… unfortunately Adam Oller just didn’t have his best stuff last night. However, that is life when you’re betting. All we can do is trust the numbers and move on!

Parlay Leg 1: Taijuan Walker Over 3.5 Ks

When Taijuan Walker is healthy, this number is ridiculous. Typically, Walker will average 4 Ks a game. The headliner here is he has been dealing with back spasms and only pitched 2 innings before being pulled in his last outing. However, I am confident that he would not be the probable starter if this issue wasn’t under control. Add in a Subway Series and a Yankees lineup that likes to hit it out or strike out trying and we’ve got some historical data on our side! Let’s take a look at the OddsJam Data where we are line shopping these bets.

We can see that the books are pretty much counting this as much of a pick ’em as Underdog is. However, we have the knowledge of his injury, and that likely explains why the books are all very even on this bet. Are we taking a gamble on a gamble? Yes! Welcome to the danger zone. ?

Parlay Leg 2: German Marquez Over 4.5 Ks

This is a pitching mismatch, to say the least, and I always like taking a Colorado Rockies pitcher at home. For those of you who don’t know, the Rockies play at an elevation some 5,000 feet above sea level. If you play in Colorado regularly, it’s no problem! If you don’t, it can be a hard adjustment. In his last 8 starts, Marquez has only not thrown at least 4 Ks once. We need 5, but the fact that he consistently gets right up against that number gives us the historical data.

Unlike the first leg of the parlay, there is no question about which side the books are favoring. The odds are favoring Marquez to throw 5+ strikeouts and that is good enough for me!

Underdog Fantasy Parlay – August 22, 2022

Parlay Leg 1: Adam Oller Over 3.5 Ks

The secret to building these parlays is using the OddsJam Software to find lines with the most value and combine them with historical data. Adam Oller has had 4, 2, 1, 6, and 4 strikeouts in his last 5 outings. For those of you keeping track at home, he’s gone over 3.5 Ks 60% of the time in this sample. I already like this pick based on historical data alone, but let’s compare on OddsJam.

You can see that Underdog has their split set at o/u 3.5 Ks. You can also see that there is a consensus among the books that Oller is most likely to pitch over 3.5 Ks tonight. We now have historical data and OddsJam data on our side, so I am sold on this first leg.

Parlay Leg 1: Edward Cabrera Over 5.5 Ks

Normally, I wouldn’t pick two pitchers dueling against each other. However, the numbers really aligned on this one so I’m going to make an exception this time. Cabrera has 7, 6, and 8 Ks in his last three outings telling me that he just might have found his groove. Over on OddsJam, the numbers only solidify this bet.

Once again, there is a consensus that Cabrera is most likely to go over 5.5 Ks. Add in the fact that Cabrera is pitching against the Oakland Athletics, a team that strikes out above the league average rate, and I feel very good about the second leg of this parlay.
