If you are a Brooklyn Nets fan: how are you? Are you doing okay? This is beyond anything I’ve ever seen in terms of two players absolutely demolishing their own team and fanbase. Take heart Nets fans, it will get better!

Now, let’s move on to the big ticket item: Kevin Durant’s trade request.

In a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai earlier this week Kevin Durant, to the surprise of many, reaffirmed his trade demand and stated the teams he would prefer to go to (Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, or Toronto Raptors). From there, all hopes of Durant and Kyrie Irving returning for one last all or nothing season flew out the window.

Brooklyn is not doing itself any favors in this trade, though. It is now being reported by Boston Globe reporter Adam Himmelsbach that Brooklyn’s initial ask of the Celtics in a Kevin Durant trade would be to receive both Jaylen Brown AND Jayson Tatum in a deal.

Obviously, that never went anywhere. Now, according to Himmelsbach, Brooklyn later shifted its focus to a potential deal centered on Brown, Marcus Smart, and a massive haul of future first-round draft picks. However, this was also swiftly shot down. For those of you who are confused by this move lets break it down just a bit.

Brooklyns golden asset is Kevin Durant. Durant has 2 championships to his name, multiple finals MVPs, former league MVP, multiple time all-star, multiple time All-NBA. His resume is great! However, Durant is also 33 years old, suffered a major injury, has not been happy anywhere he has gone, and is demanding a trade even though he has years left on his contract with Brooklyn.

The Nets are asking the Celtics to give up one star player in their prime along with some of their most valuable role players and a LARGE amount of draft picks. Ironically, Boston has these assets thanks to a trade from Brooklyn years prior centering mainly around draft picks that became very valuable when the Nets fell off the NBA Earth as their old stars aged further.

No one knows for sure where Durant is going, but one thing IS for sure. If the Nets plan to trade Durant before the season, they have to come back to Earth a little bit with their asking price.
