2022 TOUR Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions

Heading into the BMW Championship last week, Patrick Cantlay had the most top ten finishes of any golfer- ten total, and did so playing in 18 tournaments. He had yet to win an individual tournament this year but did so when it mattered most, defending his win last year at the BMW Championship and setting himself up for a potential back to back FedExCup championship, which would be a first.

Needless to say, he has the opportunity to make history this week and has 29 of the best golfers on tour, standing in his way.

This week is the last tournament of the 2021-2022 PGA Tour season and will crown a FedExCup Champion when it is all said and done. We are headed to Atlanta, Georgia to play East Lake Golf Club for the TOUR Championship.

2022 TOUR Championship Event Information

  • Date: August 25-28, 2022
  • Course: East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta GA
  • Purse: $75,000,000
  • Defending Champ: Patrick Cantlay

The TOUR Championship is the final of the FedExCup Playoffs and the culmination of the 2021-2022 PGA Tour season. The FedExCup Playoffs, which began two weeks ago, opened with a field of the top 125 players in the standings and has been progressively cut to 70 last week and is now down to the top 30 players.

The TOUR Championship is a 72 hole stroke play tournament which will not have a cut. The tournament also features another unique aspect called the starting strokes scoring system, which began in 2019.

This means each of the 30 players in the tournament will start with the scores listed below based on their perspective rankings.

TOUR Championship RankStarting Strokes Score
1-10
2-8
3-7
4-6
5-5
6-10-4
11-15-3
16-20-2
21-25-1
26-30Even

Weather should be something to keep an eye on heading into the start of the tournament, there is a strong chance of storms Thursday and, although much less likely, chances for storms Friday-Sunday. However, with the field as small as it is, if the weather does take a turn everyone will likely be affected on the course.

What Course Is The TOUR Championship Held At?

The TOUR Championship is held at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia and has been held there annually since 2004. The course was established in 1904 and has gone through several redesigns and renovations since it opened.

Originally designed by Tom Bendelow in 1908, the course was completely redesigned by Don Ross in 1913, renovated in 1960 by George Cobb, and once more in 1994 by Rees Jones to restore it to the Don Ross’ layout.

The course is 7,346 yard par 70 and will demand the best from the golfers in all facets of the game, which is exactly what you want in the final — when 30 of the best golfers are vying for the PGA’s biggest prize.

The course is a classic second shot course, meaning accuracy off the tee will be needed to set up approach shots into the greens. Putting, of course, will also play a major factor and could be the difference between winning and losing this week as all 30 players in the field have been consistent enough all season long to be here.

How many Golfers are in the 2022 TOUR Championship?

The top 30 players in the FedExCup standings qualified for this week’s TOUR Championship, but only 29 will be teeing it up as Will Zalatoris has officially withdrawn due to a back issue which led to a withdrawal last week at the BMW Championship.

The quality of the field is undeniable, despite the lower quantity, consisting of 9 of the top 10 Official World Golf Ranked players.

2022 TOUR Championship Picks & Predictions

Patrick Cantlay Tournament Winner | +350 at Caesars

No one on tour has more top ten finishes this year than Patrick Cantlay with 11, and he has done it by playing in five fewer events than the world number one, Scottie Scheffler. No one has played better when it matters most than Cantlay and will start two strokes back of the lead.

Scottie Scheffler Tournament Winner | +220 at Caesars

Scottie is getting hot just at the right time to win the FedExCup Playoffs. Despite missing the cut in two of the last four tournaments he played in, he tied for third at the BMW Championship and held off Patrick Cantlay for the top spot in the final round starting at -10.

There is a reason Scottie has been atop the FedExCup standings since March and has the opportunity to finish what he started with a two-stroke lead heading into the final tournament.

Sunjae Im Tournament Winner | +2500 at Caesars

Sungjae Im is a bit more of a longshot, but with only 30 golfers in the field anything can happen. He is in the top 11 of strokes gained; off the tee, around the green, tee to green and total strokes gained. He has all the tools and ability to be in the thick of things come Sunday.
