Sharp Bets for Semifinals of WNBA Playoffs: 2 Bets for Storm-Aces & Sun-Sky: Can Top-Seeded Teams Battle Back?

We’re headed into Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals, and we have two excellent, potentially series-defining games to look forward to on Wednesday night. We’ll be breaking down our recommended bets for both, the odds for which came from OddsJam. 

Seattle Storm vs. Las Vegas Aces Pick: Aces -5.5 | -110 at BetMGM

10 p.m. ET

One game into the highly-expected series between the Seattle Storm and the Las Vegas Aces and so far, the matchup is living up to the hype. After stealing Game 1 against the top-seeded Aces, the Storm will be looking to keep their momentum up in Game 2 with a second win on the Las Vegas court.

Of course, the Aces will look to rally and prevent that to avoid going down two games to zero before heading to Seattle.

For the Storm in the first game of this series, everything went exactly as it needed to in order for them to pull out the win. Sue Bird was masterful with the ball, tallying 12 assists (and zero turnovers) to bring her total playoff assists to 342, the WNBA record. And while Tina Charles pulled down 18 boards, Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart combined for 50 points.

Between the four healthy starters that Seattle expected to have this series, near-perfect basketball was played.

So it makes it all the more noteworthy that the Storm were only able to steal a victory by 3 points (76-73). As we noted in our Game 1 preview, the Aces have more pure firepower and a better chance in this matchup, and while Game 1 did not go their way, that still remains the case.

It’s highly unlikely that A’ja Wilson only shoots 30% from the field while scoring 8 points again, and it’s also unlikely that a team that averaged over 90 PPG in the regular season is held under 75 points again. With that in mind, we’ll be taking the Aces -5.5, available for -110 at BetMGM.

Connecticut Sun vs. Chicago Sky Pick: Sky Moneyline | -195 at FanDuel

Much like in the series between the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm, the series between the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun began with an upset, and not one that we personally predicted. Not only did the numbers and first round of the playoffs support a Sky win in the first game of the series, but the regular-season showdowns did as well.

The Sky were 4-0 against the Sun in the regular season, but I guess that’s why they play these games because the difference between the regular season and the playoffs can be a significant one. 

The Sun play a much more physical, rebound- and post-heavy version of basketball than the motion offense of the Sky — that was evident in their Game 1 win. However, even while playing the game on their terms, the Sun were never able to build up a hugely significant lead against the Sky or put them away early in the game.

While Game 1 was a low-scoring affair (with a final score of 68-63), it was one that was never a foregone conclusion. With a Sky team that needs to get a win here to avoid going down 0-2 headed to their opponent’s court, I expect them to come out fast and come out hard.

They should set the pace early to force the larger Sun players to get out and run and make them defend beyond the arc. For Game 2 of the series between the Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky, I’ll be taking the Sky moneyline, available for -195 at FanDuel.
