EPL Matchday 6 Picks & Predictions

Everton vs. Liverpool Pick: Everton +1.5 | -127 at BetRivers

Saturday, Sept. 3 | 7:30 a.m. ET

We are in for a treat this morning as we get to witness another rendition of the Merseyside Derby. The two are squaring off for the 292nd time and we’re expecting another tight affair as both sides look to claim bragging rights.

Everton have failed to pick up a win yet through five EPL matches and welcoming a Liverpool side that appears to have found its footing to Goodison Park isn’t going to make anything easier for them. Off the back of consecutive 1-1 draws, Everton will look for more production in front of goal where they have failed to impress not having scored more than a single goal in any of their six competitive matches to kick off the campaign.

While the offensive production has not been impressive, their defense has kept them in games enabling them to collect three draws to date in the Premier League. The Toffees have kept Chelsea, Brentford and Leeds to a single goal, which should give them a sense of optimism prior to squaring off against Mo Salah and company.

Liverpool might very well be back. After struggling at the start of the season with draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, the Reds proceeded to lose outright to a struggling Manchester United squad. We all knew they would break out eventually, and they did just that in a 9-0 thumping of Bournemouth prior to their come from behind 2-1 victory over Newcastle mid-week.

One area of concern for Liverpool is their defensive backline — conceding at least 1 goal in four of their five matches with the only clean sheet being the previously mentioned 9-0 victory over Bournemouth. While Everton haven’t been an offensive machine, they have been scoring goals and that should leave the back four of Liverpool on high alert as they seek to continue the momentum they have begun to build.

History suggests a close match — seven of the last 10 head-to-head meetings between the squad have seen Everton cover the +1.5 spread while doing so in nine of the last 10 when at Goodison Park. The Merseyside Derby brings out the best of this Everton squad even if they aren’t in the best form leading into the match and while Liverpool seem to be gaining traction, we believe history repeats itself yet again with Everton putting in a competitive performance in front of their fans.

Tottenham vs. Fulham Pick: Both Teams To Score | -127 at BetRivers

Saturday, Sept. 3 | 10 a.m. ET

Tottenham are off to an impressive start under manager Antonio Conte. They will look to keep the pressure on league-leaders Arsenal with the quick turnaround and a chance to redeem themselves off a 1-1 draw with West Ham in which the Spurs’ only goal came from an own goal.

It was hardly a poor performance, as chances did present themselves to secure the 3 points but, as luck would have it, a penalty given to the Spurs was taken back via VAR and after going up in the 34th — they instead conceded the equalizer in the 55th minute with the rest of the match remaining square.

Fulham enter in a good spot. Having lost only one of their five league fixtures (2-1 to Arsenal) they are playing with confidence not seen in this Fulham squad in quite some time.

Fulham have already demonstrated an ability to go head to head with the big boys of the Premier League, securing a 2-2 draw to Liverpool on opening day, a 0-0 draw to the Wolves on the road and a 2-1 loss at the Emirates where no team has found success in recent times. Surely their results to date will give Fulham all the confidence needed to head into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a belief of escaping with points in their pocket.

Both squads have had success early on in the season, Fulham are playing pressure-free soccer at the moment and have scored at least 1 goal or more in four of the five league matches. With Aleksandar Mitrovic having already bagged 5 goals, there’s no reason to believe he will be short on opportunities while the Spurs failing to score a goal of their own last matchday will certainly ignite a fire under Harry Kane to get his squad on the board in front of the home fans.

Both squads end up on the score sheet.
