The 2022-23 Premier League season is rapidly approaching. Here are the storylines our soccer expert @FootyChancellor is eyeing this season, as well as the futures bets he’s locking in now.
English Premier League Championship Odds 2022-2023
The upcoming 2022-2023 English Premier League season is shaping up on paper to be a great one. Some major moves have already been made and several dominos are left to fall:
Where does Cristiano Ronaldo end up?
Does Chelsea continue to pursue Neymar in the transfer market?
Does Newcastle splash the new cash now or in January?
There are many storylines that could swing the future of this year in major ways.
Arsenal finally look ready to make a run at the top four if they can avoid the terrible start that they had at the beginning of last season, going 0-3 to start the year. The addition of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City seems poised to push Arsenal back into Champions League football, which they missed by 3 points.
Chelsea remains a mystery because honestly, I have no idea what they are doing. They have a huge hole at striker with the exit of Romelu Lukaku that they hope Kai Havertz can fill. There is still time to grab Ronaldo, which is much more likely than paying the fee and salary demands of Neymar.
The biggest problem that I see for Chelsea this upcoming season is the back line. Letting Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid) and Andreas Christensen (Barcelona) leave and replacing them with Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli) and Levi Cowell returning from loan is a mistake. They need more.

That brings us to the two new faces of the EPL in Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City). Manchester City adds the golden boy from Dortmund to help them try and finally capture a champions league title.
Haaland comes from a much more wide-open style of play from the Bundesliga with 22 goals and 7 assists last year. It will be interesting to watch how his game translates into the much more physical English league.
Darwin Nunez is the true striker that Liverpool fans have been craving since Luis Suarez’s departure. He has the physical and aerial skills to be able to Liverpool try can claim the league this year.
Tottenham have all the pieces to make a run at the top four. While they are clearly behind Man City and Liverpool, its hard to say they are not the third-best team on paper and they finished fourth last season and 3 points behind Chelsea.
Antonio Conte has made some great moves to improve the squad in the offseason, adding Richarlison from Everton and Ivan Perisic from Inter. They have all the tools for another top-four finish

Leeds have sold their two best players in Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City) and Raphinha (Barcelona – pending) and replaced them with Tyler Adams (Leipzig) and Brenden Anderson (Salzburg).
Somehow, Leeds avoided relegation last season with some prayers and miracles on the last day of the season. I see no such luck happening again with this current squad.
Now the term longshot is just that. Highly unlikely to happen but everyone also said that about the 2015 Leicester City squad that was 5000-1.
Newcastle have not made many moves during this window, but they are trying hard to bring in a big name. Newcastle finished the season winning seven of their last 10 matches with losses to the big three (Man City, Liverpool and Spurs).
If Newcastle can continue that form and win the matches they are supposed to, this has a shot.
2022-23 EPL Champion Prediction: Liverpool to Lift the Cup | +250 at DraftKings
There is way to much value here over Manchester City -165 not to take this line. The race for the title came down to 1 point on the last day of the season.
Both squads have added major pieces to improve their squads, but both have also lost some. Man City added Erling Haaland to replace Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) and sold Raheem Sterling to rival Chelsea. Phil Foden will probably move into Sterling’s role full-time and is a world-class talent.
While Man City return a loaded squad, it feels like they are much more concerned about getting over that Champions League hump than winning the EPL.
Liverpool losing Sadio Mane is a major blow. He was a part of the 1-2 punch with Mohamed Salah that made the reds feared throughout the world. Liverpool are hoping that Luis Diaz can fill that role without missing a beat.
