The NHL season is in full swing, and now almost halfway through the season, we take a timeout to look at the state of the NHL landscape on the quest for the Stanley Cup.
Sitting at the top of the odds at +450 are the Boston Bruins and their 39-7-5 regular season record. This squad can’t seem to lose, and the longer the season goes on, the better their Stanley Cup stock gets. The Bruins’ dangerous offense will be something to reckon with come playoff time.
At +700, the Carolina Hurricanes are the next-best favorites to win the Stanley Cup in 2023. The Hurricanes boast a host of young talent coming into its own, topped off by its unconventional yet effective three-man goalie rotation. Without a doubt, this team is motivated to hoist The Cup for only the second time in the franchise’s history.

Coming in at third-best odds are the defending Colorado Avalanche. At +750 odds, they are right in the mix to defend their 2022 title behind their backcourt duo of Cale Makar and Devon Toews.
The Avalanche currently sit at fourth in their division which is a far cry from their 2022 spot at first. However, with plenty of the season left to go, they have plenty of time to gain ground in the standings. Once it comes time for the playoffs, all that matters is W’s in the win column, and this team has proven they can get that done.
Are we heading for an Avalanche vs. Bruins Stanley Cup? Time will tell, and, as you can see below, there’s not much separation at the top.
The Bruins are no stranger to success, having been to the Stanley Cup Finals as recently as 2019. With their first-half performance in this regular season, it’s easy to see why they are the safest pick.
The Bruins also look to bolster their roster going forward past the All-Star break, which could prove dangerous to the rest of the league. This is a lethal veteran Boston team with much to prove and the fight to make it happen.

It may come as a surprise to see the Golden Knights in this slot with the news of Mark Stone’s indefinite absence following back surgery. However, Vegas is a deep team with the resources to trade for a Stone replacement.
They will come off a four-game losing streak following the All-Star break but sit third in their division with few games separating them and the first-place Seattle Kraken. The road won’t be easy, but this Golden Knights team can make noise in the playoffs.
It’s hard not to take the defending champs at these odds. Championship fatigue and the incredible difficulty in repeating a professional sports championship aside, this team is still a contender.
After half a season under their belt post-2022 free agency, and with deadline moves possibly under the horizon, the Colorado Avalanche seem primed for a second-half breakout.
With a bit of help (and luck?) with their player’s health and availability, the Avalanche are still a terrifying team to face.
2023 Stanley Cup Champion Prediction: Bruins | +450 at BetMGM
I’m riding with the favorites to win the 2023 Stanley Cup. In the 21st century, Boston sports teams find a way to win, and I’m not one to bet against that. This Bruins team has the talent, leadership, and fight to take it all and hoist the Stanley Cup.
Barring catastrophe, I see the Bruins continuing the Boston dominance we’ve become accustomed to.
