In what feels like the first time in forever, the Cowboys enter an NFL season without a massive circus surrounding them. It is generally a yearly August tradition where the Cowboys enter the season with too much hype compared to their actual Super Bowl chances.

This year, though, things have been eerily quiet in Dallas. They still have a talented roster, but they also have some question marks.

After last years embarrassing end in their playoff loss to the 49ers, what do the Cowboys chances look like heading into 2022? Let’s get into it, featuring analysis on their win total, Super Bowl odds and much more.

2022 Cowboys NFL Betting Odds

As of right now, the market tells us that the Cowboys are an above average, but not quite elite NFL team. They have exactly the tenth-best odds to win the Super Bowl, tied with the Ravens at +2000.

Just ahead of them are the Broncos (+1700), and just behind them are the Bengals and Colts (+2200).

This feels accurate to me. I am definitely on board with the Cowboys being a top ten NFL team, but I couldn’t vault them into top five or even top seven.

In terms of the NFC specifically, they are firmly considered the fifth-most likely team to come out of the NFC at +850 odds. There is a pretty big gap between them and the team with the sixth-best odds too, being their division rivals the Eagles (+1400).

Just ahead of the Cowboys are the 49ers (+750) with another gap between them and the Rams (+500, who have the third-best odds.

If everything breaks right, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys do break their decades long streak and win more than one playoff game this year.

Quarterback Dak Prescott isn’t up there with Mahomes as the best of the best, but he is certainly good enough to get hot in the playoffs and win the Super Bowl like we’ve seen with Eli Manning/Joe Flacco/Nick Foles.

Defensively, it is almost guaranteed the Cowboys won’t get as many turnovers as they did last year, but with elite players such as Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, they could certainly still be stout on the defensive end.

2022 Cowboys Win Total Analysis

As of the time of this writing, the Cowboys win total is set at 10.5, with the odds favoring the under. FanDuel gives the over 10.5 at +105 odds, with the under at -130.

That 10.5 over/under is an accurately priced line, as there are arguments for both the over and the under.

Cowboys fans will point to the Cowboys having the tenth-easiest schedule in the NFL in terms of strength of schedule this upcoming season, and also point to their 5-1 start on the season last year.

On that fifth win, though, Prescott pulled his calf and there was a noticeable difference on the Cowboys offense after that injury.

Prescott only missed one game, and started the remaining 10 games, including the playoffs. Taking away the meaningless week 18 win against the Eagles where the Eagles rested all of their starters, the Cowboys finished the season exactly 5-5.

There were some ugly losses in that stretch too, with the offense looking hopeless in multiple games.

Now, heading into 2022, the Cowboys have question marks at the skill positions, losing Amari Cooper via trade to the Browns and Michael Gallup tearing his ACL late in the 2021 season.

So, I have a tough time predicting this over/under. I would lean towards the under, as I have concerns whether the defense can replicate their 2021 success along with concerns with the skill positions.
