NFL Best Bets Week 6 Preview

1. 49ers -2.5 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Analysis: The 49ers come into this game with a must-win mindset. They’ve had a rocky start to the season, sitting at 2-3, but their metrics suggest they’re a better team than their record indicates. San Francisco has one of the league’s top offenses, ranked in the top five in both passing and rushing. They’ve also played a softer schedule, and this game against Seattle is their chance to prove they can compete in the NFC West.

Seattle, on the other hand, looked like a fluke 3-0 team to start the year. The Seahawks have faced subpar teams like the Broncos and Patriots, and when tested against stronger competition like the Lions and Giants, they struggled. Even more concerning, Seattle’s offensive line is banged up, which could allow San Francisco’s Nick Bosa and company to dominate the trenches. I like the 49ers to bounce back and cover the short line here.

  • Key Points:
    • San Francisco needs a win to keep pace in the NFC West.
    • Seattle’s offensive line injuries could make it tough for Bo Nix to operate.
    • 49ers’ defense, even with injuries, matches up well against Seattle’s inconsistent offense.

2. Lions Team Total Over 27.5 Points vs. Cowboys

Analysis: The Lions are coming off a bye week and face a banged-up Cowboys defense that’s missing key pieces like Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence. The Lions have shown the ability to move the ball effectively all season, ranking top 10 in both rushing and passing yards. Despite only cashing the over once this season, the Lions should be in a position to hit this total against a Cowboys defense that’s giving up 24.2 points per game and struggled against quality offenses.

The Lions’ balanced attack, featuring David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield, should create favorable matchups against a defense that’s bottom 12 in rushing yards allowed. With Jared Goff slinging the ball to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a healthy Jameson Williams, Detroit should have no problem putting up points.

  • Key Points:
    • Detroit averages 26 points per game, and they’re facing a defense ranked 23rd in points allowed.
    • Cowboys’ run defense struggles play right into the Lions’ strength with Montgomery and Gibbs.
    • Extra week of rest and preparation should benefit Detroit’s game plan and execution.

3. Keenan Allen Over 49.5 Receiving Yards vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Analysis: Keenan Allen has yet to cash this line this season, but it’s only a matter of time. The Jaguars are allowing the second-most receiving yards per game in the NFL, and they rank 26th in receptions allowed to wide receivers. While Allen’s target share has been inconsistent, he’s still capable of breaking out for a big game. The matchup is ripe for him to clear this line, and at plus money, it’s a value spot.

Jacksonville’s defense is better against the run than the pass, which should force the Bears to air it out more often. Allen is due for a bounce-back performance and should see an uptick in targets against a weak secondary.

  • Key Points:
    • Jaguars’ defense ranks near the bottom of the league in passing yards allowed.
    • Allen saw 11 targets in Week 1 and should see a similar workload in this matchup.
    • Jacksonville’s run defense strength means more passing attempts for Caleb Williams and company.

4. Patriots Team Total Over 13.5 Points vs. Texans

Analysis: With rookie quarterback Drake Maye potentially making his debut, the Patriots could see a spark on offense. Even if Jacoby Brissett starts, the 13.5 line is too low against a Texans defense that has struggled at times this season. The Texans rank bottom five in rushing yards allowed, and New England’s offense, led by Rhamondre Stevenson, could find success on the ground, opening up the passing game.

This is a value play based on a low line. The Patriots have hit this over in several games, even when facing tougher defenses. With some added motivation to give the young QB a good first start, look for New England to sneak past this low total.

  • Key Points:
    • Texans are weak against the run, which could allow the Patriots to control the clock.
    • Even with Brissett, New England has enough offensive weapons to clear 14 points.
    • Possible momentum boost with a new QB leading the offense.

5. Ravens vs. Commanders Teaser (Over 46.5 Points)

Analysis: This is a classic spot to play a teaser, as the game totals for both the Ravens/Commanders and Packers/Cardinals are slightly inflated. By teasing each down by six points, you’re getting value on two matchups that should feature plenty of scoring. The Ravens and Commanders both have top-10 offenses, and their defenses are vulnerable to giving up points in bunches. Meanwhile, the Packers and Cardinals are both better on offense than defense, making the teased down total an attractive play.

  • Key Points:
    • Ravens and Commanders games have been high-scoring affairs, with each team scoring 20+ in most games this season.
    • Packers and Cardinals have struggled defensively, ranking in the bottom half of the league in most defensive categories.
    • Teasing down to more manageable totals should provide better chances of hitting the over in both matchups.
