Bears vs. Seahawks Betting Odds
8 p.m. ET
The NFL preseason can be tricky to bet, but there are some rules I live by that have served me well. The first and maybe most important comes from the coaching staff. You might be thinking, “Pete Carroll is an NFL veteran — one of the most successful coaches in the league! How do you pick against that?”
But in fact, that’s exactly why we pick against him.
Carroll is acutely aware of how much the preseason results matter — not at all. At least not for the Seahawks. You could say that the turnover at quarterback led to some instability and it would be good to start the ship on the right path. But we saw how much time starters got in the Seahawks’ preseason opener. They don’t seem to care.
The Bears, on the other hand, have a whole new system coming in and getting in real reps really matters.

A rookie head coach ultimately wants to start his career with some wins. If it means he uses a few extra resources and takes a few more risks to do it, that’s a very real possibility. And it’s not conjecture. In the first week of the preseason, the rookie head coaches playing won every single matchup. The only ones that lost were the ones matched up against other rookie head coaches.
Add to that the fact that Drew Locke has Covid-19 and this is a must-take. Carroll won’t be overusing his presumptive starter in Geno Smith and now it will fall to the third- or fourth-string to play the majority of the game. It’s all lining up Bears tonight.
