College football is back! While Week 0 doesn’t necessarily provide us with a ton of high-profile games and the elite teams, it is still exciting because it is football on our television.

In this article, we will be previewing the matchup between the Wyoming Cowboys and the Illinois Fighting Illini. This is a home game for Illinois, with the game being played at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 27.

Wyoming has become a decent football program in the Mountain West. Taking out the covid shortened 2020 season, Wyoming has won six or more games every year since 2016.

Last year the Cowboys finished 7-6 overall, but only 2-6 in the Mountain West. They started the season 4-0, but could not keep up the momentum and the six conference losses were the most they’ve had since the 2015 season.

Heading into the 2022 season, Wyoming has a lot of questions. They were hit harder than most teams in the transfer portal, losing a lot of players- especially on offense.

They return only one starting offensive lineman from last year, along with losing both of their quarterbacks. They also had their leading receiver and leading rusher from the 2021 season transfer as well.

So, the expectation here is that there are going to be some major growing pains for Wyoming on offense. They will start Utah State transfer Andrew Peasley at quarterback, which will be his first chance to be the legitimate starter of a team.

Illinois is no slouch on defense, either, giving up less than 22 points per game last year under new defensive coordinator Ryan Walters.

With that said, Illinois also struggles on offense. They finished last year 115th in the country in scoring, and 112th in total offense.

While the Fighting Illini do have a new offensive coordinator and starting quarterback, the expectation is that they are still going to struggle offensively.

So, with everything taken into account, this figures to be a low scoring game. I wouldn’t be surprised if neither team even managed to get 20 points, so we are targeting the under here. This is also a Positive Expected Value play that I found using OddsJam.
