UConn vs. Utah State Odds, Picks & Predictions: Back the Aggies in This Potential Blowout

While Week 0 doesn’t bring us a ton of high-profile games, we still get the first week of being able to watch real, non preseason football on our televisions.

That alone is something to be worth celebrated, and in this article we will be previewing the matchup between Uconn and Utah State. This game is being played at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 27.

UConn vs. Utah State Betting Odds

To say this has been a rough stretch for Connecticut football the past couple years is an understatement. Overall, they haven’t won more than three games since 2015 when they finished 6-7.

There is a reason why this spread is four touchdowns in favor of Utah State, as UConn only won one game last year, which was against Yale- a non-D1 football school. After five seasons and a 6-23 record, UConn finally let head coach Randy Edsall go, who was replaced by Jim Mora Jr.

Mora Jr’s first order of business was to attempt to figure out the quarterback position, so he recruited Ta’Quan Roberson. Roberson, who is a transfer from Penn State, will get the start for UConn this season. This is a much needed boost for a Connecticut offense that only managed to average 15.6 points per game last season.

While Roberson won’t have much to throw to in the way of skill positions, at least having some talent at QB will be a step in the right direction for this UConn rebuild under Mora Jr.

Defensively, to be frank, is going to be a struggle for the Huskies. They ranked 109th out of 125 teams in the FBS in terms of rushing yards allowed per game last year. This is going to be a struggle particularly going against a veteran Utah State offensive line that also returns their leading rusher last year in Calvin Tyler Jr.

This Aggies team, by the way, is in year two of Blake Anderson as their head coach. Anderson had a successful year one, winning their conference, the Mountain West, with an 11-3 record. They also went 10-4 against the spread, so not only did they win but they also covered.

While Utah State did lose their top three receivers from last years squad, they return starting quarterback Logan Bonner, who finished last season with 3,628 yards and 36 touchdowns.

While Mora Jr might be able to turn around the UConn football program over time, it won’t be in 2022. Look for Utah State to win big in this Week 0 matchup.
