John Hyslop is here with his play of the day! Check out an NCAA Football Futures bet he’s locking in for the Texas Longhorns.

NCAA Football To Make 2023-2024 College Football Playoff Bet: Texas Longhorns | +320 at FanDuel

When I looked at the OddsJam Screen and saw the Texas Longhorns at +320 at FanDuel to go to the College Football Playoff, I thought my computer was broken. Actually, it’s +325 at BetMGM but when I tried to bet $100, they would only let me do $3.25 so I went elsewhere. I get limits, but $3.25? What are we even doing at this point. Still, +320 is good enough for me. If you can’t play at FanDuel, look at DraftKings or Caesars because both have +300 which isn’t terrible.

(By the way if you don’t have access to the OddsJam Screen or the other tools on this site, they are free for a month when you use promo code “SLOP” at checkout. Just do it now and see what all the fuss is about.)

Here’s the thing about the Texas Longhorns, they’re good. But here’s the thing about betting teams to make the College Football Playoff, it’s about more than being good. We need the right schedule as well and if we’re being honest, this Longhorns’ schedule is set up about as good as I’ve ever seen. Sure they have to go to Alabama for their second game, but they almost beat Bama last year. They lost by a point. Given that the Crimson Tide will have a new signal caller, this is a winnable game. If they get past them, then watch out. We’re in already.

But even if they don’t beat Bama (I think they will), the schedule is set up perfect for them to run the table and get in the playoff that way. Before the haters say “Oklahoma”, stop. Oklahoma isn’t good anymore. They were barely bowl eligible last year. Texas beat them 49-0. Good teams don’t lose 49-0. Grow up Sooner fans. You’ll get your chance again (probably) but not this year.

When we’re past Oklahoma, we’re looking at Kansas State and TCU which translates to “home free” in Big 12 language. I highly doubt the Longhorns will be challenged by Iowa State and Texas Tech in the final two weeks. That means we’re looking to finish at worst 11-1 this season with the lone loss coming in the second game. Anyone who knows anything about college football knows that you want your losses early. These kids are going to the College Football Playoff this season. Feels right.
