Being the home team and also on a prolonged hot streak, the Celtics find themselves favored by 5 points over a Miami Heat team that is holding 1st place in the East by a half game over the Milwaukee Bucks, and one game over these Celtics.

The game total over/under is at 215 as well.

On December 30st, 2021 the Celtics were sitting in the middle of the east with a disappointing 16-19 record. There was some intra-squad bickering, and the players didn’t seem to have meshed well with new head coach Ime Udoka.

Then, on New Years Eve, they beat the Phoenix Suns by 15 and haven’t cooled down since. Including that game, they have a 31-10 record in that span. They also have the best net rating in the entire NBA and the best defense in the NBA since 12/31/2021.

Not only are they winning, but they are absolutely destroying teams too. Simply put: the Celtics are riding a heater for 3 months now and don’t seem to show any signs of slowing down.

The Heat, meanwhile, have been in 1st place in the Eastern Conference for the majority of the season, but are struggling as of late. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games, with some gross losses in there as well. In those 10 games they’ve lost to the 76ers without Embiid or Harden, the Warriors without Curry, the Knicks, and were blown out by the Nets.

They finally caught a break, beating the Kings by 23 points in their most recent game. Of course, blowing out the lowly Kings without De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence. Especially when you take into account the in-game fight that went down between Jimmy Butler and head coach Eric Spoelstra and Heat legend Udonis Haslem in the Warriors game.

The Celtics will be without Robert Williams aka “timelord” for the next 4-6 weeks with a knee injury, which definitely hurts them in the long run but shouldn’t be a huge factor in the outcome of this game specifically. Aside from timelord, there are no other players currently listed out on the injury report.

The Celtics rested the majority of their starters in their most recent game, which was against the Raptors, and still almost pulled that game out.

Looking at this game, I see no reason not to continue to back the Celtics. They are 2-0 against the Heat this season, and I expect that to be 3-0 after tonights game. Give me the Celtics to win and cover the point spread at home tonight.
