NRFI stands for “no runs (in) first (the) first inning. First-inning bets have gained a lot of popularity in recent years through social media because of the quick sweat of only one inning.
For a NRFI to hit, all it takes is six outs without a run scored. It can be a quick bankroll booster or a swift and brutal loss.
For example, if Max Scherzer and the Mets are playing Corbin Burnes and the Brewers and each pitcher does not allow a run in their half of the first inning, the NRFI has hit and the money will be in your account as soon as the second inning.
A YRFI (yes runs first inning) bet is the opposite. This can cash even more quickly. If the leadoff hitter hits a home run on the first pitch of the game, then congratulations on the win.
A YRFI bet is also not dead until all six outs in the first inning are recorded.
For example, if Burnes gives up a home run to Pete Alonso in the first inning, the YRFI bet has already won and the rest of the game is irrelevant.
NRSI or the alternative of YRSI is the exact same concept but for the second inning.
Technically through live betting, you can almost always place this bet for any inning, but its popularity is limited to the first inning. Unless there is a late change in the lineup, there are no variables or unknowns like who will be pitching, hitting, and so on.
When considering whether to take a NRFI or a YRFI only the top half of the batting order is relevant. Even in the absolute extreme case where the bases are loaded and there are two outs, the sixth spot in the order would be due up. The 7-9 hitters are completely irrelevant in a no/yes runs first inning bet because if they come up to bat, at least one run has already been scored.

Here are the teams with the best NRFI records so far this season as of June 8, 2022:
Team | NRFI Record |
---|---|
Boston Red Sox | 33-23 |
Houston Astros | 33-23 |
Baltimore Orioles | 32-25 |
New York Yankees | 31-24 |
San Francisco Giants | 30-24 |
As you can see from that list a team’s win/loss record doesn’t play much of a factor in predicting the NRFI record.
Good teams with good pitching staffs won’t allow many runs, but their offense might be good as well, leading to runs being scored in the first inning.
On the other hand, here are the teams with the best YRFI records so far this season as of June 8, 2022.
Team | YRFI Record |
---|---|
Washington Nationals | 34-23 |
Los Angeles Angels | 34-23 |
Chicago Cubs | 33-23 |
Colorado Rockies | 32-23 |
New York Mets | 34-24 |
