Rangers vs. Angels Player Prop Bets Today – July 29, 2022: Look for Sandoval Strikeouts

It feels a bit uncomfortable to write an article about an Angels game and not fade them. I do like Martin Perez and am far from opposed to his 5.5 line vs this team, I will actually be looking to the other dugout for today’s pick.

Patrick Sandoval can be a pretty frustrating player to bet on, but when he is on he can rack up strikeouts. We have seen both sides of it this month as he has games with 9 K, 10 K, 3 K, and 4 K. He is nearly guaranteed for 2+ walks but if he can avoid getting himself in trouble, it could be a big night for him. 

Patrick has some solid K numbers overall this year. He has 91 K in 84 innings (1.08 K per inning) and is slightly better at home with 48 K in 42.2 innings (1.13 K per inning). While he has been hit around a bit this month, he’s managed 26 K in 19 innings through 4 starts. Patrick is in the 63rd percentile in K per inning, 69th percentile in swinging strike percentage, 61st percentile in K rate, 75th percentile in whiff rate, and 71st percentile in chase rate.

He features a 5 pitch arsenal, 3 of which are terrific pitches to generate swings and misses. His slider has a 36.1% whiff rate, change up has a 46.4% whiff rate, and his curveball has a 34.6% whiff rate. He should pose trouble for the Rangers offense.

We will have to wait and see about Seager’s status. He was taken out yesterday after fouling a pitch off his leg. He is up in the air for tonight and if he is out, it is just another bonus for us. The Rangers are a fairly middle of the pack team in K, as they ranked 11th worst in K per game at 8.72, but that jumps to 8.96 on the road.

They have become a better target as of late though. They have a 26.5 K rate vs lefties over the last 30 days, which is 7th worse in the MLB. They also lead the league in K over the last 15 days with 118 in 12 games. They have a 26.4% K rate in that span. I like this spot for Patrick at home vs a team that has been struggling to make contact lately, and will be playing him to rack up 6+ strikeouts.
