Strikeout bets are similar to total bets, where there is a set over/under that the pitcher you bet on needs to hit. Of course, this means you can bet on over the set total of strikeouts or the under.
A strikeout bet is simply the number of strikeouts a pitcher throws in a game. For example, if the line was Justin Verlander over 4.5 strikeouts, you would need him to throw 5 strikeouts for the bet to cash. Alternatively, anything under 4 strikeouts would cash if you bet the under.
These bets are often on half points, which means your bet cannot push. That just means your bet will either win or lose and your stake can’t be refunded on an exact amount.
If you feel great about a pitcher in a specific game, consider taking a swing at the over total strikeouts bet!
Total strikeouts bets are, of course, all about the pitcher’s individual performance. Before wagering on a pitcher, be sure to analyze the current and past statistics and trends.
Due to the number of games in each MLB season and the longevity of star players’ careers, pitchers typically have a solid sample size against the projected top batters in a given game. Sharp bettors look into these trends before determining if a total strikeout line is more likely to go over or under.
Some batters have success against certain types of pitches, which can impact the total. If a pitcher uses a high percentage of pitching types that the opposing team’s top hitter excels against, taking the over might not be the best play.
Pitching matchups, stadium home run lengths and season statistics are all crucial before wagering on a total strikeouts bet. It’s also important to line shop and make sure the bets you do take are mathematically profitable
