I promise I don’t hate the Tigers. I have nothing against the Tigers. There just seems to be a lot of value betting against them. And I love value!
Cleveland isn’t leagues better than Detroit. The Guardians have had hitting struggles recently and haven’t won a series in their last five.
But Shane Bieber is a true ace and I can get behind that. He hasn’t quite been able to replicate the brilliance of his 2020 season, but he hasn’t had any regression in his ability either.
He’s only 26 years old — the pitch location will get better. He’s shown good signs this year despite the record and he won’t have a very difficult test tonight.
The pitching advantage gives the Guardians the big edge here to me, which outweighs the substantial minus odds.
The Angles have been hot. You would think a team with two perennial MVP candidates would always be in the mix of the best teams, but somehow it’s taken until this year for them to break through.
That said, there are still some weak spots on the roster. Rookie Chase Silseth will be on the mound and while he is looking like he could develop into a nice pitcher, he’s very unproven.
And he’ll be going up against an excellent Blue Jays lineup that could quickly take advantage.
On the other side, Alek Manoah has been having a great year. He’s rocking a 1.62 ERA over 50 innings pitched, one of the best marks in the league for a starter.
The Angels have got the firepower to give him trouble, but overall the Blue Jays should have a significant advantage through the starting pitching tonight.
