Awkward: Pirates’ Rodolfo Castro Drops iPhone Mid-Slide

Rodolfo Castro of the Pittsburgh Pirates had an awkward moment on Tuesday. In a 6-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Pirates infielder dropped his iPhone while sliding into third base.

Castro claimed that having his iPhone on the field was completely unintentional.

After getting walked in the top of the 4th inning, Castro headed to third on a single from Oneil Cruz. He had a beautiful, head-first slide into third, but his phone came flying out of his back pocket.

The third base umpire immediately noticed the phone, looked at the Pirates’ infielder and pointed at the ground.

Castro went 0-3 in the game with one walk. He was called up from the minors yesterday, so he didn’t exactly make a great first impression.

The Pirates have bigger worries, though. They’re last place in the NL Central with a 44-66 record. Pittsburgh is also just 4-6 in their last ten games.

Castro, and the Pirates, will look to bounce back tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks. I even have a bet on them thanks to OddsJam.
