A winning drought was going to end one way or another Sunday at the ZOZO Championship with Keegan Bradley facing down Rickie Fowler — each had not won since 2018 and 2019 respectively. Keegan was ultimately able to pull off the win after a birdie on 17 to take the lead and par on 18 to keep it, this is his 1st win this season and 5th of his career.
THE CJ Cup is one of the PGA Tour’s newer tournaments being first played in 2017. It was initially hosted at the Nine Bridges Golf Club in South Korea and continued there for the first three tournaments until travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic forced the tournament stateside and has been played here ever since.

It is a 72 hole, stroke play tournament, with a smaller field of only 78 players so no cuts will be made. The 78 player field is made up of the Top 60 available FedEx ranked players from last season and 18 through the KPGA, Asian Tour and sponsor exemptions.
The weather should not play much of a factor with the forecast showing clear skies all week; however, the wind will be something to keep an eye on heading into the weekend.
This year, The CJ Cup in South Carolina is being played at the Congaree Golf Club, in Ridgeland. The course, established in 2017 and designed by Tom Fazio, has only hosted one previous PGA Tour event prior to this week.
The course is par 71, 7,655 yards and while the yardage may seem long, it plays extremely fast having been built on the firm sand in the Carolina lowlands. The course has no traditional rough, but instead the fairways and greens are surrounded by bunkers and sandy waste land spotted with brush to leave some potentially awkward lies should golfers miss. Arrant shots not finding the waste land will likely find water.
Accuracy from tee to green and bunker play will be a major factor this week. The greens are smaller than average and will be playing firm and fast, so as always good putting is a perk. I don’t expect a ton of scoring this week with winners likely finishing in the low to mid teens.
The total purse of the 2022 The CJ Cup is $10,500,000. The winner receives 500 FedEx Cup points and a minimum of 24 Official World Golf Ranking points — additional Official World Golf Ranking points can be added based on the tournament’s strength of field.
The champion also receives a two season exemption on the PGA Tour, as well as inclusion to the 2023 Masters and 2023 PGA Championship, and the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Finish | Payout |
1 | $1,890,000 |
2 | $1,144,500 |
3 | $724,500 |
4 | $514,500 |
5 | $430,500 |
The tournament field is smaller than most other tournaments and will be composed of 78 players. Despite the lower quantity, the strength of the field is the highest of any tournament so far this season. The field will feature 15 of the Top 20 and 30 of the Top 50 Official World Golf Rankings, teeing it up this week.
Current odds favorites to win the The CJ Cup is FedExCup Champion and Official World Golf Ranked No. 2 Rory McIlroy (+650), followed by No. 5 John Rahm (+900), and No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (+1200) rounds out the Top 3.
