After a rollercoaster of an offseason, the Buccaneers lead the NFC Championship odds at +325. Following two months of retirement, Tom Brady announced he’ll be returning to the Bucs in 2022. With Brady under center, and a returning core of Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette, the Bucs offense stacks up against any in the NFC.

The Packers and defending Super Bowl champion Rams round out the top three at +500 each. Green Bay had an interesting offseason, which has been the norm the past few years.

The saga of Aaron Rogers’ contract was finally resolved when he signed a four-year contract extension; earning $150 million over the next three years. However, Rodgers’ favorite target, Davante Adams, was traded to the Raiders after a contract dispute.

Both the Packers and Bucs lost in heartbreaking fashion in the Divisional Round at home last season. The playoffs ghosts continue to haunt Aaron Rodgers — it’s now been 11 seasons in a row that the Packers have not reached the Super Bowl.

Speaking of playoff misery, the Cowboys sit at fifth on the odds list at +750. Dallas had an uncharacteristically quiet offseason. After an infamous wild-card loss in 2021, it’s now been more than 25 years since the Cowboys even made a conference title game.

In Year 3 of the Mike McCarthy experience — and Year 7 for Dak Prescott — the faithful in Big D are expecting postseason success this year.

The race for the NFC seems as wide open as ever. We could see a number of teams challenge the Bucs and Rams for the top spot. Longshots Cardinals and Eagles (+1200 each) have made some big splashes in the offseason. And with up-and-coming coaches and QBs, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see a young team get hot and find themselves a spot in the NFC championship game.

NFC Championship Picks & Predictions

The Safe Pick: Buccaneers | +325 at BetMGM

After announcing his retirement, Tom Brady unretired a few weeks later and will lace ‘em up for the Bucs in 2022. After beating Philly in the Wild-Card Round, Tampa ran into the eventual Super Bowl champs in Round 2.

The Bucs were down 27-6 in that game, and Tom Brady almost led them on one of his signature comeback wins.

As the page turns to 2022, the Bucs have a new head coach at the helm in Todd Bowles. The combination of Brady and offensive coordinate Byron Leftwich has been dominant since Tampa Tom hit the scene.

Playing in a weak NFC South division gives them a good shot to get the coveted top seed in the NFC playoffs. Avoiding having to go to Green Bay or L.A. would be a huge boost to their potential Super Bowl run.

The Longshot: Eagles | +1200 at BetMGM

The Eagles squeaked into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth last year. Despite a blowout loss to the Bucs, playoff experience is invaluable for their young core of Jalen Hurts, Devonta Smith and head coach Nick Sirianni.

Philly has been the darling of the NFL offseason in 2022. By making a huge splash in the draft by trading for A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts has yet another weapon to develop with.

The Eagles’ best path to the NFC Championship is by winning the NFC East and hosting a couple playoff games. Their biggest competition will be defending winners, Dallas.

There has not been a back-to-back NFC East winner since the 2003 and 2004 seasons. The Cowboys are hard to rely on when the going gets tough, making the Eagles the next obvious choice to take the division and make some noise in the playoffs.

The Value Pick: Rams | +500 at BetMGM

The defending Super Bowl champions enter the year at a modest +500 to repeat as NFC Champions. It’s no surprise that the Rams spent a ton of money in the offseason; it’s been general manager Les Snead’s m.o. since the team moved to L.A.

I love the value the Rams are opening with. It’s certainly hard to repeat, even as conference champs. But if the pieces that Snead put together can fit, the Rams have the talent and experience to take them deep in the playoffs.

2022 NFC Champion Prediction: Buccaneers | +325 at BetMGM

The Bucs have had a rollercoaster of an offseason. Between Brady’s retirement and unretirement, and Bruce Arians stepping down from coaching, I can understand why Tampa may not be a popular pick.

But, with Tom Brady looking as dominant as ever, and a good chance for the No. 1 seed, I love the preseason value we’re getting on the Bucs.
