Simply put, the NFC is not very good right now. It wasn’t last season and with the impending departure of future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the conference makes the NFC as far cry from what it was a year ago.
With teams like the Rams, Packers, Cardinals and Buccaneers completely falling off, the NFC could be a cakewalk for the best roster in the conference by far – the San Francisco 49ers.
Had Brock Purdy not injured his elbow early in the NFC Championship, we could absolutely have seen a rematch between the Chiefs and 49ers in the Super Bowl. This year, the Eagles roster and coaching staff was gutted and they must now pay Jalen Hurts a monster contract extension.
The 49ers, on the other hand, can continue to be aggressive with their cap space with two rookie quarterback contracts, and they did so by adding star defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to an already elite pass rush.
With the best offense in the NFL and a young quarterback in Purdy who can get the ball to his talented skill position group, there aren’t many in the NFC who can give this team a true run for their money.
It would be quite a surreal sight to see if the Dallas Cowboys can advance past the divisional round at some point in our lifetimes.
Jokes aside, this roster is absolutely stacked and gives the 49ers a run for their money in terms of how they compare on paper. Dallas ultimately fell to the 49ers in a nailbiter last year, but have since added Pro-Bowlers Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, who are clear win-now moves that the team has failed to make in previous offseasons.
While many are bought into the Lions, I can’t bring myself to bet on such a young team that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1991. Outside of Jared Goff, there is very little postseason experience on that team.
Dallas, on the other hand, also has a young core but now has been to the playoffs a few times and should have the needed experience to go over the hump, particularly with the additions of Cooks and Gilmore.
Dan Quinn returning to Dallas was a massive win for them, as their already elite defense from last season is bound to improve. I’d heavily consider placing some futures wagers on the boys.
