We’re back and ready to cash in on the first TD scorer for this week’s Thursday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. As always, before we can even begin to talk about which individual is going to score first, we have to talk about which team is going to score first.

Last season, the Chiefs scored the first touchdown in 12 of their games. This comes out to a ridiculous 71% of their games last season. One of the games they didn’t score the first TD came against none other than… the Los Angeles Chargers. I don’t expect history to repeat itself today. The Chiefs are at home in Kansas City and they have something to prove after last season. I look for them to score the first TD this go around.

Patrick Mahomes Targets

Here’s the problem with a gifted QB such as Mahomes – he has his favorite targets in the game as a whole, but when it comes to kicking off the scoring party, it’s all about who is open near the endzone.

The books have Travis Kelce as the most likely to score the first touchdown and for good reason. However, they want you to take that bet. I expect the Chargers to be all over Kelce after his stellar performance in the season opener.

Instead, I look for Mahomes to be targeting Juju Smith-Schuster. Schuster is a new addition to the Chiefs roster and Mahomes targeted him eight times for 6 completions and 76 yards. Look for that number to rise this game and for Schuster to be the target for the first TD of the game.
