While the AFC is certainly a stronger conference than the NFC, there is no one I’d rather place money on than the Chiefs. Last season, they won the Super Bowl with a pedestrian wide receiver core and are now in the running to add either DeAndre Hopkins or Odell Beckham Jr.
Pair their potential offensive additions with their rookie defenders who figure to get even better after winning a chip and the Chiefs feel unstoppable. While I initially liked the Bengals, they have some major question marks in the secondary that have not been addressed to this point.
With plenty of cap space to work with and the roster improving on paper from last season, the Chiefs appear to be in a good position to repeat as world champs.
Miami’s roster is one of the best in the league following the trade for star cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Last season, their explosive offense was severely held back by a porous defense that figures to be much better under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
The wild card here is the health of Tua Tagovailoa. Following a series of major concussions, Tua was shut down for the remainder of the 2022 season and even missed the team’s first playoff game since 2016. Should he suffer another hit, there are serious concerns about his long term health.
But with the worst case scenario aside, the Dolphins are a sleeper title contender. They were still competing even when they were down to their third string quarterback against powerhouse teams like the Buffalo Bills.
At 14-1 odds and with stars all over this roster, this is one of my favorite longshot bets.
