Good Afternoon OddsJam family, Jay here and I’m back with another “Best Bet”. We have cashed six of our last eight plays (75%) in the series and look to continue the hot streak with a juicy strikeout prop.
Today we take a look at former CY Young Award winner, Shane Bieber. He gets the start against the strikeout-friendly Detroit Tigers in a rematch from his last start, where he recorded 10 of them. Bieber has hit this number in three of his last four starts (75%) and is in a great spot for history to repeat. DET has a 28% K Rate vs. RHP and match-up poorly with Bieber’s pitch arsenal.
Bieber throws his slider mostly to RHB, with a 42% whiff rate. Four of Five DET RHB are whiffing 35%+ vs. the slider, while three of them are whiffing 40%+. As for lefties, they can expect more curveballs from Shane (33% whiff). The Entire DET lineup in fact has a whiff rate of 30%+ vs. right handed curveballs. This suggests a very advantageous matchup. Strikeout-prone hitters like Baez and Cabrera do not have great history against Bieber either.
Baez has struck out in two of three (66%) AB’s in his career against the former CY Young winner. Cabrera is 4 for 18 (.222) with five strikeouts. Jeimer Candalario has struck out a whopping 50% of the time vs. Bieber in his career. (12 K’s in 24 AB’s). I’ll gladly put my money on the guy with overwhelming success against a team, and that our best friend “Data” agrees with. Let’s roll!
