Nestor Cortes Jr. gets the start today against the Kansas City Royals and he is backed by a red-hot New York Yankees offense. Cortes has been nearly flawless this season, recording 25 strikeouts in just 15 innings pitched while maintaining a 1.15 ERA.
The Yankees are on a six-win streak in which they’ve averaged 7.6 runs per game, helping them move to ninth in the league with 4.5 RPG. The Royals rank 24th in RPG (3.4) and 25th in hits (6.8). Kris Bubic takes the mound for K.C. and he has been getting destroyed so far this season. He currently holds a 14.14 ERA across three starts. In those three starts, he has only made it past the third inning once.
The Yankees have won the first half outright in five of their last six games, including one tie. I’m expecting them to come out firing on the road today and attacking Bubic early. With Cortes on the mound they won’t need much run support to cash this ticket. This is easily my favorite play today.
