Best MLB Parlay: September 23, 2022

Let’s end the business week by cashing out this parlay. We mean business today.

1st Leg: Rangers Team Total Over 3.5 Runs vs. Guardians | -130 at DraftKings

8:05 p.m. ET

We’re backing the Rangers to hit their team total over today.

At first glance, it’s strange to see the Guardians in an underdog role. In order to justify being the favorite, the Rangers are going to have to score today.

The Rangers face off against Cody Morris. In a small sample size, Morris has been impressive. He has a 2.30 ERA but his 1.53 WHIP screams regression. For a pitcher to have under a 3 ERA but that high of a WHIP means he’s getting a bit lucky.

Can the Rangers make him pay? Absolutely. The Rangers are hitting a modest .243 at home this month, but we know the top half of the order is ripe with veteran talent. Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia will provide the run support we need to cash this total over.

2nd Leg: Rockies Team Total Over 4.5 Runs vs. Padres | -130 at DraftKings

8:10 p.m. ET

The Rockies have scored a combined 1 run over their last two games, but here comes the left-handed Sean Manaea to turn around this offense.

In Manaea’s only start at Coors Field, he allowed 2 ERs in 6.1 innings pitched, but the Rockies still managed 5 runs. The opposing team has scored 5+ runs in 16 of his 27 starts.

The Rockies hit lefties much better than righties so it’s music to my ears that Manaea is a lefty. I fully expect the Rockies offense to get back to smashing the baseball at home like they’ve been doing all year long.

Once Manaea exits, this Padres bullpen is capable of giving up a couple of runs — we’ve seen that time and time again.

This is the last series the Rockies have at home this year. They better come out and put up some fireworks!

The 22nd is here and that means we have a two-leg parlay. It just feels right. Here’s what we like in the league today.

1st Leg: Mariners/Athletics Under 7.5 | -125 at BetMGM

3:38 p.m. ET

We have an early start time in this contest, and the pitching is certainly favorable for an under.

Let’s start with Adrian Martinez pitching for the A’s. Martinez has a small sample of home games in which his ERA is inflated to 6.38. His only outing against Seattle was bad, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits.

So why is the total so low in this one? If you toss out the 7-earned-run performance, Martinez was actually pitching really great. His earned runs were 0, 1 and 2 in these games prior to the debacle.

On the season, the mariners are also only hitting .235. The A’s are hitting an abysmal .204 at home and they face George Kirby.

In three games, Kirby has a 2.50 ERA against Oakland. He should be able to keep the Oakland bats at bay and help cash this total for an early start on this parlay.

2nd Leg: Red Sox First 5 +0.5 vs. Yankees | -110 at BetMGM

7:15 p.m. ET

After the walk-off grand slam by Giancarlo Stanton two days ago, the Yankees offense kept humming to the tune of 14 runs yesterday against the Pirates.

Entering Yankee Stadium today are their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox with their starter Michael Wacha.

Wacha has had the Yankees’ number in his most recent starts vs. them, which is why I am backing the Red Sox in the First 5.

In Wacha’s last three starts against the Bronx Bombers, he’s limited them to 5 hits, 0 earned runs in 17 innings pitched. It also would make sense if the Yankees’ bats come back to Earth after roasting the Pirates alive.

The Yankees will start Jameson Taillon. Taillon has pitched three times against the Red Sox this year, allowing 10 earned runs across 18 innings pitched … that’s not great.

The Red Sox are out to spoil here as they don’t have a ton to play for this late in the season with playoff hopes diminishing.

I like the Red Sox to keep this close and be tied or leading after five innings just to let their bullpen lose them the game because that is what it has done all year long.

Wednesday is here. Can’t spell Wednesday without a W and that is what we expect to obtain today.

1st Leg: Mets Moneyline vs. Brewers | -126 at FanDuel

2:10 p.m. ET

The Mets are the best play today, as they look to stay ahead of the Braves in the NL East playoff run. We expect that the Brewers simply won’t stand in their way today.

Taijuan Walker is scheduled to start for the Mets and he’s been solid on the road throughout this season. Walker has a 3.36 ERA on the road this season and he should be set for a decent start today. The Brewers’ bats have been mostly down as of late, only hitting .204 in their last three games.

For the Brewers, Adrian Houser will take the mound. Houser will face the talented Mets offense today —at home, Houser has a moderate 3.73 ERA but the 1.32 WHIP could mean danger is looming.

My personal opinion is that, when seeing a WHIP that high with a sub-4 ERA, there’s a strong indication that ERA regression is likely coming. In their last three games, the Mets have been hitting .265, significantly better than the Brewers.

The pressure will be on Houser and I predict he can’t take the heat today.

2nd Leg: Phillies/Blue Jays Under 8 | -110 at FanDuel

6:45 p.m. ET

Yesterday, the Phillies and Blue Jays combined for 29 runs — so naturally the next day they will go soaring under. Both teams are starting two of their top pitchers.

Kevin Gausman will start for Toronto. Oddly enough, he’s been better on the road than he has been at home. He has the put-away pitches to get out of tight jams as well.

The Phillies will start Zack Wheeler. His 3.07 ERA and 1.07 WHIP is nothing to sneeze at. He’s been one of the most consistent pitchers all season long.

The Blue Jays love swinging for the fences, and I believe Wheeler can force them into some easy groundballs.

We trust both bullpens to dial in after yesterday’s explosion. Give us the under in what we project is a regression to the normal average of runs for both teams.

Yesterday’s parlay went 1-1, we need this one to go 2-0. Let’s dive in.

1st Leg: Red Sox/Reds Over 8.5 | -108 at FanDuel

6:40 p.m. ET

There are several reasons we like the over in this one.

First off, the starting pitchers are both susceptible to the hit parade. Nick Lodolo and Brayan Bello are as erratic as they come. Lodolo only has a 2.77 ERA at home, but we know this Red Sox team can turn it on at any moment.

The Red Sox are absolutely smoking lefties as well. Boston is hitting .500 in its last three games against left-handed pitchers.

Bello is scheduled to start for the Red Sox and he’s been terrible on the road. He enters with a 7.07 ERA on the road. With a hitter-friendly ballpark and nearly 2 WHIP, it’s safe to say Bello should give up some hits and runs.

Last point, these two bullpens are bottom-five in the league in ERA. There should be plenty of run opportunities late to secure the over.

2nd Leg: Cardinals First 5 Moneyline vs. Padres | -105 at FanDuel

9:41 p.m. ET

If you are in the mood to play it safe, take the Cardinals F5 +0.5, but I’d rather take the outright moneyline, which does have push potential.

Adam Wainwright will start for the Cardinals. The 41-year-old has been very good for the Cardinals this year.

Over 100,000 sports bettors are making big profits with OddsJam. Are you next? Click here to sign up today!

He’s coming off a quality start after being roughed up to start September. I don’t trust the Padres bats to get to him. He pitched against SanDiego earlier this year and threw seven scoreless innings, striking out 10 Padres over that stretch.

Mike Clevinger will start for the Padres. He has decent stats on paper, but his 4.47 ERA and 1.21 WHIP are something I believe the Cardinals can get to.

Clevinger is having a September to (not) remember. He’s allowed 4+ earned runs in each three of his starts and I am hopeful that stretch continues today.

The Cardinals are a capable offense to give Wainwright some run support. Go Cards!
