The PGA Tour heads across the pond this week for the Scottish Open in advance of next week’s final major of the season — The Open Championship at St. Andrews.
This week’s field at the Scottish Open is loaded, with 14 of the top 15 players in the world teeing it up to get some links golf experience under their belts before the Claret Jug is up for grabs next week.
This year’s Scottish Open is being held at Renaissance Golf Club, where the tournament has been played for the last three years.
Previous winning scores have ranged from -11 to -22, which isn’t surprising considering how much of a factor the weather on a given week can play in links golf.
This week’s forecast looks like a fair test, with winds expected to be around 15-20 mph all weekend.
2022 Scottish Open Bets Outright Winner Picks, Odds
The recent U.S. Open Champion played very well at Renaissance last year, coming up just short of victory in a playoff. He’s obviously in great form now, and as an Englishman, his experience with links golf cannot be understated.
The last American to win the Scottish Open was Rickie Fowler in 2015, so Europeans have a distinct advantage in this event.
Smith may not be European, but Australians are non-Americans too. Smith struggled at the U.S. Open but has had a great season thus far including wins at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and THE PLAYERS Championship, as well as finishing tied for third at The Masters. At +2800, I love the value on Smith here.
Zalatoris does not have a win this year, which seems almost impossible the way he has played. He finished T2 at the U.S. Open, second at the PGA Championship and T6 at the Masters.
He can struggle from time to time putting, and the slower greens in Scotland could neutralize those struggles. He’s been a top-10 machine this season, and I expect that to continue.
Fleetwood is another Englishman who I expect to have a big week at Renaissance. He’s struggled in his last three starts but did have a top-five finish at the PGA Championship and a top 15 at the Masters.

I know this is a chalk pick, but Rahm is the tournament favorite and I don’t see him having a bad week. A top-20 finish at the Scottish Open should be easily attainable for the Spaniard.
