Serie A Matchday 7 Picks & Predictions
Udinese vs. Inter Milan Pick: Both Teams to Score | -175 at BetRivers
Sunday, September 18 | 6:30 a.m. ET
It’s only six matches in and Udinese are sending a message to the rest of the Serie A that they are serious about fighting for the Italian crown. Currently sitting in fourth place having suffered a single loss to AC Milan (4-2) on opening day provides a ton of room for optimism for this squad moving forward.
Off the back of four consecutive wins and most recently a 3-1 victory over Sassuolo they will look to build on that momentum as they welcome an Inter Milan side to the Dacia Arena who have proven to be inconsistent early on in the campaign – although no Lukaku surely hasn’t helped matters.
Speaking of Inter Milan, who are fresh off a 2-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, they will look to form a level of consistency as they have already collected two losses from their first six fixtures.
Aside from their 3-0 victory over Spezia back on Matchday two, Inter haven’t proven to be strong defensively conceding at least one goal in their other five Serie A matches and two or more in two of those six – hardly a recipe for success if they are to strip the league title from rivals AC Milan.
Udinese are flying high and finishing their chances in the final third – scoring at least one goal in five of their six matches and having produced two or more four of six (66%). That’s great news because as we just discussed there’s a lack of defensive stability in Inter Milan’s backline.
While scoring in bunches, Udinese have also proven to be a tough nut to crack conceding a mere six times in those six matches, but the key to this is that four of them came in their first match vs. AC Milan – in other words? Twice in their other five matches. Impressive.
While it will be tough for Inter to break through that tough backline of Udinese, we believe given their form in the final third, combined with their list of talent capable of producing, they should find the back of the net at least once. Naturally, it’s easy to be concerned about backing a team to score against Inter, but to this point in the season they haven’t shown us any reason to fear them defensively.
Considering the way Udinese and Inter are scoring the ball it’s entirely possible they both walk out of this match with more than one goal scored and points in their back pocket.
Monza vs. Juventus Pick: Juventus Moneyline | -120 at BetRivers
Sunday, September 18 | 9:00 a.m. ET
What is happening in Turin? Juventus are hardly a team to fear at this moment. Injuries have played a factor in their current situation, but even so, this is Juventus (even if they have fooled some people so far). Sitting in eighth place in the table with 10 points, it’s important for Juventus to start collecting wins as opposed to draws (four draws from six matches).
Considering how poor this squad has performed, they have yet to lose a match domestically. Off the back of a 2-1 loss to Benfica at the Allianz Stadium and the second defeat in a row in their Champions League campaign, Juventus are scrambling for answers. It’s hard to find positives at the moment, but one massive positive? They’re squaring up vs. Serie A newcomers Monza who have been a disaster in their own right.
Monza currently sit in the 20th spot and in all likelihood will probably remain there for much of the season. After suffering five straight losses to open their season, Monza collected their first point last time out in a 1-1 draw vs. Lecce, but will be hard pressed to find a similar result vs. their opponents this week regardless of their struggles.
Scoring three goals in six matches would make it hard for any squad to grind out positive results, even more so when you’re a club who lack the talent to compete against the bigger sides in Italy week in and week out.
This match should be pretty straight forward and we’re of the belief that Juventus begins to right the ship with a confident victory over a club who have probably already come to the realisation they will be back in Serie B next season. At the price we are getting on the moneyline, it’s an easy decision. Juventus collect three points.
