Two of Serie A’s top teams and title favorites go head to head in this clash of the titans Saturday afternoon when second-placed Atalanta welcome first-placed Napoli to Gewiss Stadium.

Atalanta are making a serious push for the Italian crown this season — granted, we are only 13 matches in with a lot of soccer left to be played. This is a different Atalanta squad from years past, we have become used to the back-and-forth goal fest encounters.

Instead, with only 18 goals scored in their 12 matches, we are witnessing a different version of this club — one with more emphasis on the defensive side, yet the ability to still score in the final third. Having conceded 8 goals in their 12 fixtures, only Juventus have conceded less (7) and that defensive backline will need to be tight if they intend to take 3 points from red-hot Napoli.

I don’t think there were many people on the face of the Earth who anticipated this sort of start from Napoli. We sure didn’t. That being said, their run has been impressive beyond words and must be respected.

Seeing as they’re off the back of their first loss of the season mid-week on the road to Liverpool in Anfield (2-0), that should be a motivating factor to get them back up and running. Not only was it their first defeat of the year, but it was also only the second time they failed to score a goal (the last time being a 0-0 draw on Aug. 28 to Fiorentina).

With so much on the line, we’re expecting both squads to start their strongest lineup possible. Historically, we have seen plenty of goals when these sides meet. Seven of the last eight Serie A head-to-head matchups have seen the over 2.5 cash, including the last three.

While Atalanta have tightened up the back line this season, it’s hard to envision Napoli not getting on the scoreboard. Taking into consideration what this fixture means for Atalanta if they are to make a serious title push combined with the desire for a bounce back for Napoli, we’re locking in the over 2.5.

Though our first selection of the weekend sees two title contenders go head to head, the opposite is true here. What was once two clubs fighting for Serie A supremacy year after year are now two clubs fighting to get into the top six. It’s been a poor season for both clubs to this point, but with a lot of time to turn it around, today would be a good place to start.

Juventus — who sit seventh in the table — welcome Inter Milan to Allianz Stadium in Turin where they will look to put 100% of their focus on their domestic revival after what was an embarrassing Champions League campaign.

It’s hard to think the mood is great within the training ground, but with so much season left to be played and one less competition to worry about, Juventus will look to build on their three-game win streak domestically. Three consecutive clean sheets will have the backline buzzing with confidence, it’s on the offensive end of the field where things need to pick up where they have only scored 18 goals — a far cry from the other top teams in the Serie A (Napoli – 30, AC Milan – 25, Lazio – 24).

Inter Milan claimed second in their Champions League group behind winners Bayern Munich and will also look to build on their domestic momentum. Having won four straight and off the back of a 3-0 victory over Sampdoria last match day, Inter will need to be more consistent if they are to put a dent in the point gap between themselves and league leaders Napoli.

While neither club has been a force this season, there is still a lot to be played for and we expect both sides’ best efforts. That said, it is Juventus we are looking at to win or draw this match. Historically, Inter have had a tough time in Turin.

In their last seven head-to-head matchups in the Allianz Stadium, Inter Milan have won a single time. Once. That’s it. With Juventus slowly rounding into form, we expect another brilliant defensive effort from their back line enabling them to walk away with at least one point today. Juventus +0.25.
