Avalanche vs. Blues Game 6 Betting Pick: Over 6.5 | -115 at BetRivers

What has happened to the defense in the Western Conference?

Last night, we had a new record for the fastest four goals in just over a minute between Edmonton and Calgary. It was insane as the scoring just didn’t stop, and they even took a goal off the board after review.

Tonight we are onto St. Louis. During Game 5 in Colorado, the scoring didn’t stop either as the Avalanche blew a 3-0 lead and then a 4-3 lead with less than a minute left and we went to overtime.

The 20-year drought is real in Colorado and clearly the Avs felt the pressure in Game 5 as they looked like they were just going to skate into the next round, but now the Blues have life.

If Colorado wants to end the drought someone needs to help Nathan MacKinnon tonight.

“It’s starting to look like you’re either the hammer or the nail in the series, so we have to go and be the hammer,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said.

“We have to keep moving forward and pressing and forcing them into mistakes.”

Struggles in Net

The Blues gave away Game 3 because of their anger at losing their goalie Jordan Binnington. In Game 5, it took a while but they showed heart — and showed Colorado this series isn’t over.

Blues backup goalie Ville Husso has struggled as Binnington’s replacement.

When you give up 4, 6, 5, 5 and 6 goals in your last five games, respectively, and you only win one (the Game 5 overtime comeback), you are not doing your job.

The Avalanche goalie, Darcy Kuemper, is doing better but he is nothing special giving up an average of 3 goals a game in this series.

When you have two goalies giving up an average of 8 goals a game, this leaves us with only one choice in this game.

Can the Avalanche Close Out?

Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said it best: “The third period, they did a good job of keeping pucks in and we got a little bit sloppy with some of our clears.”

“It’s desperation mode for them, they’re throwing pucks to the net, rebounds are laying there and they’re outnumbering us at the net, simple as that,” Landeskog said. “But, you know, we’ve got a short memory and move on.”

The Avalanche must change how they end games and they know the Blues are not going to fold and die.

This game is going to come down to who makes the fewest mistakes in the third period, as we are going to have a war tonight.

The over has hit in the last four Avalanche road games, and the over is 9-2 in the last 11 matchups. The over is also 24-8 when the Blues are a home underdog and has hit in the last five games in St. Louis, including totals of 9 and 7 goals this series.

The over has hit in the last three games in this series and we see nothing changing that tonight.

Avalanche vs. Blues Game 6 Prediction

There hasn’t been any defense in this conference and it won’t start in this crucial game where the season is on the line for St Louis.

Let’s take the over 6.5 at -115 odds in what could be the last game of this round out west.

Enjoy the fireworks on TNT tonight.
