The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are set to face off in the 2023 Super Bowl.
As is tradition, the Super Bowl has a number of fun novelty props, which are a great way to get everyone interested in all aspects of the game. While there aren’t meant to be taken overly seriously in terms of high wagers, they are fun bets to root for during your Super Bowl party.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of this year’s novelty props, featuring the Gatorade color, coin flip result and more!

2023 Super Bowl Novelty Props
Coin Toss Result
This one is pretty self-explanatory, as this is a literal coin flip of a bet. But, if you’re looking for a quick cash ahead of the actual game action, this one might be fun.
With this bet, make sure you are ONLY betting if it’s +100. Betting a 50% coin flip at anything around -110 is straight-up robbery on the part of the sportsbooks and should not be bet.
On DraftKings, you can parlay the coin toss with the projected winner. For example, you can bet on the Eagles to win the coin toss and the game at +250, which is essentially the moneyline parlayed with a 50% chance.
Bettors can also wager on who will win the coin toss, which is the same odds are whether it lands on heads or tails. While we don’t recommend putting too much into this one, it can be a fun bet to kick off the big game.
Gatorade Color
The correct Gatorade color pick is always a fun Super Bowl tradition. Typically, the Gatorade color choice is tied directly to who bettors think will win the game.
Last year, there was a clear correlation between Gatorade color options and the participating team colors. Blue and orange, two of the most popular colors, were associated with the Bengals and Rams.
This year, however, there isn’t green for Philadelphia. There is red/pink for the Chiefs and a clear option that could match their white jerseys. With the clear Gatorade being +1000 odds right now, that certainly may be worth a small wager.
All in all, this is similar to the coin toss in that it’s a fun bet that shouldn’t have a heavy wager tied to it — unless you happen to know the Gatorade guy working the Super Bowl (in which case, please contact me).
Jersey Number of First/Last Scorer
Right now, the over/under on this bet is 11.5. This a fun twist on the standard first and last touchdown scorer bet that we often see, as it gives more possible avenues for a win (or a loss).
For example, if Jalen Hurts — who is No. 1 — scores, the under would cash and his high touchdown-scorer percentage is likely why it is currently favored at -140. However, if Miles Sanders (No. 26) or Travis Kelce (No. 87) scores first, the over would cash at plus money at around +110.
Will there be an Octopus?
Yes, you read that correctly.
In the NFL, an octopus is when a player scores a touchdown and then scores the subsequent two-point conversion. It’s a low-probability play that is currently at +1400 odds to happen.
Given the high percentage of teams passing the ball on a two-point conversion, there likely has to be a passing touchdown in order for this bet to have a realistic shot. Teams rarely try running the ball on a two-point play after scoring a rushing touchdown.
This one could be worth a sprinkle if you’re into it, but in my opinion, the odds aren’t close to the actual odds of this happening.

Kick to Hit the Crossbar/Upright
This is also pretty self-explanatory, but the kick hitting the crossbar or the upright happens moderately often.
Right now, betting on this to happen is +450, while it not to happen is -650. While the odds of a kick hitting the post are certainly enticing, the Eagles and Chiefs have two of the most accurate kicks in the league in Harrison Butker and Jake Elliot.
This is one that is fun for a very small number of units, but I wouldn’t expect either of these kickers to struggle as they are as clutch as they are talented.
Position of MVP
Instead of selecting the sole MVP bet, you can also wager on the position it will be. For example, quarterback is the runaway favorite at -650, as they win the award the most and there are two great quarterbacks on the field in Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
Next up is wide receiver at +650 and there are certainly some names to watch in this one, such as A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. The Chiefs have a nice wide receiver core, but none are the standout WR1 type of player. That would be Travis Kelce, who has a large influence on the third-highest position being +900.
Perhaps defensive lineman is worth a look, as the Eagles have a number of talented pass rushers and the Chiefs defense is led by All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones. At +2500, that might not be the worst bet.
