Ta’Zhawn Henry has seen his usage increase exponentially in the last two games to the tune of 15 and 17 rush attempts, respectively. I look for him to be the first look in this game and score the first touchdown.

Sorry if you’re a Utah State fan and were hoping to see one of your players picked here, but the odds are … not in your favor. BYU is a -315 favorite to score first and, while Utah State could beat the odds, but BYU will be scoring first if you’re playing the numbers.

The Pick

Keanu Hill has scored 3 touchdowns for BYU already this season playing wide reciever. Christoper Brooks has also scored 3 touchdowns for BYU this season playing running back. Just going by those numbers this would be a tossup, but let’s dig a bit deeper into this. BYU runs rushing plays 45% of the time for 5.3 yards per carry and they run passing plays 55% of the time for a 72% completion rate (13th in the NCAA).

Further, BYU has scored in the red zone only 77% of the time. Since rush TDs are most common in the red zone and BYU doesn’t convert well there, it would seem to eliminate Christopher Brooks as an option. Is it likely he will score this game? Yes. First? Probably not.

Meanwhile, last week against the lesser Wyoming team Hill was targeted 5 times for 32 yards per target. This week BYU will be in the same situation against Utah State. Gunner Romney is likely to be easing into this game, making Hill a prime target for the first TD of the game.
