The No. 5 seed Miami Hurricanes take on the No. 2 seed Texas Longhorns on Sunday in Kansas City for the right to advance to the Final Four in Houston.
Miami absolutely dominated Houston on Friday, scoring 42+ in both halves en route to an 89-75 over the top seed in the region.
All five of Miami’s starters scored at least 11 points, led by sophomore guard Nijel Pack with 26 and junior guard Isaiah Wong with 20.
The Hurricanes shot the ball very well in every category, going 51.7 percent from the field, 44 percent from beyond the arc, and 84 percent from the free throw line.
Houston had a cold shooting night, but I’m not sure it would have mattered thanks to how good Miami was.

On the other side, Texas was also dominant. The 83-71 final score does not come close to telling the story of the Longhorns’ disposal of Xavier.
Texas led by as many as 24. and by 20 with under four minutes to go before Xavier made a run in garbage time to make the score more respectable.
It was a very balanced scoring effort from Texas, with four players scoring between 16 and 19 points. Texas was 7-12 from deep and only turned the ball over nine times which contributed to the blowout.
It’s incredible what interim head coach Rodney Terry has done after Chris Beard was fired in the middle of the season.
If Miami shoots the way it did against Houston they have a great chance to advance to the Final Four, but I don’t see that happening against another top 10 team in defensive efficiency on KenPom.
The Longhorns are in the top 15 in both offensive and defensive efficiency, while Miami is somehow in the Elite 8 while being outside of the top 100 on the defensive side of the ball.
Texas hasn’t lost since March 1, and I don’t see that changing on Sunday.
