The first of tonights ESPN primetime NBA games is a great one, a matchup between the Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets.
The young and plucky upstart Grizzlies have worked themselves all the way up to 2nd in the west, while a Brooklyn squad featuring a healthy Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving might be the best team in all of basketball.
The Nets are slight favorites here, with the current spread at Nets -3.5, while the total is at 234.5. This game is being played in Memphis at the FedEx Forum on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30PM Eastern.
Because this is an away game for the Nets, that means that Kyrie is able to play. So, with that said, it is no surprise to see the Nets favored.
This Nets team has also been on fire recently. They have won 6 of their past 7 games, and that only loss came to a streaking Dallas Mavericks team on a last second made shot by Spencer Dinwiddie.
Included in these 6 victories is a 29 point drubbing of the Sixers in their first matchup post James Harden/Ben Simmons trade, and a wire to wire victory over the Utah Jazz.
Even without Simmons touching the floor, when Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are on the floor together this Nets team is scary.
Especially with how well these two are currently playing. In the past 9 games Durant has put up point totals of 37, 38, 53, and 37. Safe to say he’s on fire. Irving, on the other hand, has scored 50+ points twice in his past 4 games.
Tasked with slowing down this Nets inferno is the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite not getting much love as a championship contender, everything about this Grizzlies team screams elite NBA team.
They have the 2nd best record in the NBA, and the 5th best net rating. Despite being young, they are also a balanced team with a top 7 offensive and defensive net rating as well. There is a ton to like with this team, and it all starts with head coach Taylor Jenkins and superstar Ja Morant.
Memphis has the 2nd best record in the NBA in outright winning games in which they are the underdog, with a 14-10 record. As you can see above, this is also a Positive Expected Value play, with the OddsJam Perfect Line pricing this moneyline bet at +116.
My official NBA prediction is that the Grizzlies win 120-117.
