The Dallas Mavericks caught fire and were finally able to get a win on the board in this series. Luka Doncic was masterful again, putting up a 30-point, 14 rebounds, and 9 assist game. The Mavericks would lead by as much as 29 and hold off a late rally to close it out. After a 13-45 night from three in Game 3, they would go on to hit 20 of 43 in Game 4.

A big chess match in this series has been the Warriors zone vs the Mavericks offense. Steve Kerr has experimented with a 1-2-2 and even a box and one on Doncic. The shooters for Dallas were finally able to break it open. Reggie Bullock and Dorian Finney-Smith combined to go 10-17 from three.

Against big and small lineups, offensive rebounding has killed Dallas. They finally were able to clean that area up as well in Game 4. After 14 offensive rebounds in game 3, they held the Warriors to only 6 in their win.

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas will need their hot shooting to travel to Golden State in Game 5. As a team that has hung its hat on shooting around its star, they have an opportunity to push this series if they can hit open looks.

The zone looks by Coach Kerr were meant to keep the Mavericks out of the paint, and limit the isolation possessions Doncic creates. Most of the Maverick’s open looks came from the “hunting” of Steph Curry and Jordan Poole. Doncic would ask whoever they are guarding to come set the screen, and a “trap” or “hedge” would occur.

The Warriors being unwilling to switch this action caused a rotation of help that created a ton of open threes. How the Warriors adjust and the continued confidence of the shooters on Dallas will be a vital factor in Game 5.

The Mavericks continued to lose the points in the paint battle. Finding a way to get easy looks that are not long jump shots will be key on the road. Spender Dinwiddie and Jalen Brunson started to attack the basket more aggressively as the series has gone on, and they will need that in Game 5 to continue.

Maxi Kleber hit 2/3 from 3 and continues to play huge minutes with Dwight Powell getting short stints. His offensive impact will need to continue for the Mavericks to have a chance. The Warriors continue to sell out on Doncic, and the pick and pop of Kleber is a necessary release valve in the Mavericks offense. It opens up not only threes but driving lanes for the ball-handling guards.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors continue to be just one win away from another NBA Finals berth. In a Game 4 that even Curry deemed as “house money”, the Warriors came out flat to set up a home Game 5 to close it out.

After a spectacular conference final, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney had their worst games of the series. Wiggins had his lowest point total for the series and was a -20 on the night. Looney was held to 3 points and just 1 offensive rebound, after dominating the boards and inside for the first 4 games.

After back-to-back 30-plus games, Curry had his worst output of the series. The Mavericks went at him on the defensive end and stayed physical chasing his screens. Would expect Curry to be much more aggressive with his offense early in Game 5.

Mavericks vs. Warriors Game 5 Betting Pick: Warriors -320 on Caesars Sportsbook

With the Dallas Mavericks struggling to have their shot in this series, I see the Warriors continuing to load up on Doncic and getting the win in Golden State.
