Heat vs. Celtics Game 6 Betting Preview

In a series defined by physical play and blowout games, this continued in its theme. Both teams started cold from the field where the halftime score was 37-42 for Miami.

The Celtics picked it up with a dominant third quarter and eventually would go up as much as 23. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continued their incredible production in the playoffs, putting up 43 of their 47 combined points in the second half. Boston is now just one win away from their first NBA Finals since 2010.

Miami Heat

The biggest key for Miami is the overall health of its stars. Two straight uncharacteristic games from both Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler. They need both of them to not only be able to be out on the floor but contribute as their regular selves to combat this physical Boston team.

Butler is coming off a 4-18 night, with a ton of shots missed at the basket. He went 2-5 on shots in the restricted area, and 3-10 overall on attempts in the paint. He’s 1-7 from 3 in the last two games, and the Celtics are starting to adjust.

Coach Udoka has started having his players going far under screens, giving much more airspace in isolation and daring Butler to pull up on jump shots. He’s going to have to make them pay to keep this stingy Celtics defense honest and open up the floor.

Bam Adebayo picked up his play in Game 5, putting up 18 points and 10 rebounds but went scoreless in the 3rd quarter where the game was decided. Boston has made it rough for him all series, living with the contested long two jump shots that he has the tendency to settle for. Boston can switch the actions he’s on, and do a great job of sending multiple bodies while keeping him off the free-throw line. They are going to need his aggression and overall play to force this to a game 7.

Miami went ice cold at the worst possible time. Max Strus who has been a sharpshooter for Miami all playoffs, is 0-11 on 3-point attempts in the last two games. Overall Miami shot just 5-37 on open to wide open 3’s (where the closest defender is 4-6+ feet away). If they can get a few open looks to go down, it can take a ton of pressure off the defense.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics have prided themselves on the back of their defense, which is starting to tighten as the series goes on. They have won two games in a row now, and look as healthy as they’ve been all playoffs. They held Miami to just 31.9% shooting from the field, including 7/45 from 3.

Tatum has always been able to score but his development as a playmaker and overall player under coach Ime Udoka has spirited this run. 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists for the two-way superstar in Game 5. The Miami Heat fluctuated between different man and zone coverages, and he picked his spots effectively. Boston will need Tatum to continue to toe the line of aggression and make the right reads.

Brown continues to be unguardable in this series for Miami. When they overplay his drive, he accepts the physicality and gets to the basket. If they drop back on screens, he’s able to pull up from outside. Other than the one poor shooting display he had in Game 3, Brown just put up his 4th 20-plus game of the series in Game 5, which includes a 40-point night in Game 3. There’s a synergy that has been building between him and Tatum, that seems to be peaking at the right time for Boston.

Al Horford has seemed to find a fountain of youth in this playoff run. His balanced game blends perfectly next to the ball-handling scorers Boston puts out on the floor. 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for the big man in Game 5. His ability to switch out, protect the rim, and play make on offense has made him a critical cog for Boston.

He’s the perfect release valve for a two-man game with either Brown or Tatum. The pick and pop versatility allows him to play next to either Robert Williams or Grant Williams and create the necessary driving lanes to beat Miami.
