Colorado Rockies (46-61) vs. San Diego Padres (61-46)

I am going to buy into this new look Padres offense. After watching them rack up 8 hits and score 9 on yesterday’s starter, Chad Kuhl, I like them to have some success this afternoon as well.

The Padres added so much talent at the deadline, we may have to look their way often. Outside of Soto, they added two lefty killers in Drury and Bell. That will help us out today as we look for hits.

The Padres offense comes in red hot, averaging 8.33 runs per game over the last 3 games, as well as 11.33 hits. They have the league’s 8th best batting average over the last 15 days, and the 5th best over the last 7. Their offense should continue to improve with the new additions.

Kyle Freeland has allowed 121 hits in 114.2 innings this season. Opposing batters have a .271 average against him this season. While those numbers are inflated by his games at Coors Field, he is worse during day games where he has allowed a .283 batting average.

Current Padres batters have a combined .283 average in 166 at bats, so the experience and success has been there for quite some time. He is over 5.5 hits allowed in 13/20 this season, 5/9 at home, and 2/3 vs the Padres. The Rockies allow Freeland a long leash, throwing 91+ pitches in 7 straight games. The Padres new offense will get plenty of chances to rack up hits vs Kyle, and like them to accumulate 6+.
