The Rockies announced on Sunday that Ryan Feltner will remain in the starting rotation while moving Austin Gomber to the bullpen. That was good news to bettors everywhere as Feltner has shown plenty of strikeout potential in his early career, and the Rockies set him up for success with tonight’s matchup.

Teams have been able to hit Feltner hard in his early career, leading to a 4.85 ERA so far. With that said, as you scroll his game log you’ll see most of the damage was done in one start against the Braves.
He allowed 6 runs in three innings to the Braves on 6/5 in his home ballpark, Coors Field. Coors is a different beast than other ballparks as the high elevation, high humidity and thin air are a hitter’s dream and a pitcher’s nightmare.
Luckily for us tonight, Feltner does not have to deal with Coors Field.
On the road, Feltner has been solid so far. He holds a 3.94 ERA and only allows a .207 opponent average. Most relevant to today’s prop, he has accumulated 20 strikeouts in 16 innings (1.25 per inning).
He has gone over 5.5 in all three of his starts away from home, including a 6-strikeout gem against the Padres 10 days ago.
We are dealing with smaller sample sizes here but everywhere Feltner has gone in his career, good strikeout numbers have followed. He accumulated 48 K in 38.1 innings this season in AAA, and 330 K in 300.2 innings in his minor league career.
I do not always put my trust in guys this inexperienced, but this matchup was a bit too good to ignore.
The Marlins are rapidly climbing the ranks with strikeouts. They average 9.05 K per game, which is third-most in the league. They have 37 K in their last three games and 66 over their last six games.
They have the league’s sixth-worst K percentage vs. righties over the last 30 days. They often have a right-handed heavy lineup, seeing as many as seven righties, which works to our advantage.
Feltner has a 27.1% K rate vs. righties compared to a 22.2% K rate vs. lefties. Outside of Miguel Rojas, their whole lineup is full of good strikeout targets. I am putting my money on the young righty to pick up 6 or more strikeouts tonight.
