There are professional athlete salaries, and then there are Major League Baseball athlete salaries. Even following a 3+ month lockout, the 2022 MLB season barely missed a beat, nor did the salaries that at the top, rank among the highest in professional sports.

Let’s take a closer look at the corner of the infield, and see how MLB’s highest-paid 3B stack up.

Who are the Highest Paid MLB 3Bs in 2022?

Former Washington National Anthony Rendon leads the way at 3B, securing a $245 million seven-year deal following the Nationals’ World Series run in 2019. The definition of perfect timing, this deal will lock the All-Star up through the 2026 season and includes a no-trade clause.

Coming in just behind Rendon is St. Louis Cardinal’s 3B Nolan Arenado, who signed an eight-year $260 million deal, with a player opt-out after this season; though it’s likely he will stay in place with the team through this year, at least.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2010 finally got his massive deal in 2020, sighing for $300 million over 10 years. At 29 years old, this deal likely gets Machado through the end of his career.

Now that we’ve covered the guys making $30 million plus this year, the next level is those in the $20 million range in Jose Ramirez and Alex Bregman making $20 million and $20.1 million, respectively. Ramirez’s deal is a new one signed just this spring, a 5-year contract worth $124 million. As for Bregman, the World Series champion will get the majority of his money this season through the luxury tax salary.

At 36 years old, the Giants’ Evan Longoria is the oldest player on this list, making $16.7 million this season on the last year of a deal he signed in 2018. Next up, the Yankees were sure to be on this list, as their DJ LeMahieu comes in at $15 million, with this being his first fully healthy season in the pinstripes.

Rounding out our list are two players making a measly $14 million and $12.5 million, respectively, as Yoan Moncada and Matt Chapman are amongst the highest-paid players on their teams (White Sox and Blue Jays).

It’s also worth noting that Moncada is the youngest player inside the top 10 MLB highest-paid 3Bs at just 27 years of age as of the end of July. While he’s low on this list this season, he’s set to make $17 million next season and $24 million the season after.
