Cubs Set to Release Veteran Jason Heyward After Season

No description available

The Cubs are set to release Jason Heyward at the end of the 2022 season. Heyward, the 33 year old MLB veteran, was on a $184 million contract. However, his performance has been lackluster this season.

Heyward is only batting 0.204 on the season. The Rightfielder has just 28 hits, 1 home run, and 10 RBIs in 137 at bats. His OPS for the 2022 season is 0.556, and his OBP is 0.278. Each year with the Chicago Cubs, Heyward’s offensive performance has gone down.

Jason Heyward is currently on the 10-day injured list. He is owed $22 million in 2023 from the Cubs for the last year of his contract.

Although this release was expected, Jed Hoyer of the Chicago Cubs confirmed on Monday that the veteran outfielder would not be with the team in 2023. He’ll have the entire offseason to find a home at another team.

Jason Heyward is well known for his legendary rain delay speech in Game 7 of the World Series in 2016. The Cubs defeated the Indians in Game 7 to win the World Series for the first time since 1908.
