One of the hottest teams in baseball clashes with one of the coldest teams in baseball this afternoon. The Chicago Cubs are on a 10-game losing streak while the Atlanta Braves are on a 14-game winning streak.
Two equally impressive streaks. Both starting pitchers have been getting hit well in their recent starts and having both on the mound with great hitting weather conditions is a recipe for success. The Cubs just completed a four-game series at home with the Padres, where they allowed San Diego to score a collective 41 runs in that span.
Thompson on the mound hasn’t been great allowing 13 earned runs in his last three starts. The Cubs pitching staff will have some trouble with red-hot Atlanta coming to town, who have scored 42 runs total in their last five games. Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton has been struggling as well. He has allowed 4 earned runs in three straight starts.
The Braves rank 5th in runs per game while the Cubs rank 16th after starting the season as a top 10 scoring team. Two struggling pitchers, a red hot team, and a pitching staff that has allowed 40+ runs recently sounds like the perfect mixture of trends for nine runs to be scored.
