Nationals vs. Mets Pick: Corey Dickerson Over 1.5 Total Bases | +170 at FanDuel
Friday, July 28 | 7:10 p.m. ET
As the Nationals get ready to take on Max Scherzer and the New York Mets under the bright lights of New York, we can already feel the eyes rolling as we prepare to tell you what our selection of the day is.
I get it – Max Scherzer. Why would anybody WANT to fade him? And while doing so, we’re backing Corey Dickerson who has hit two homers all year? Let’s dig deeper into this.
Using the OddsJam Positive Expected Value tool, we discovered that some books are offering us drastically different odds to bet on Dickerson over 1.5 total bases.
Naturally, we locked it in right away as we’re receiving over 45 cents of value pending the book you decide to use today. FanDuel is offering +170 while others such as Fliff are all the way down at +125. Fliff isn’t the only book on that end of the scale either – Caesars is right behind them offering us +127 for the same wager. We’ll explain why we love this bet below.
Max Scherzer is a first ballot Hall of Famer, but fortunately for us and the Nationals, that doesn’t matter tonight. Scherzer hasn’t been at his best this season compiling a 4.2 ERA and also has found himself to be prone to the long ball in recent starts averaging 1.5 bombs given up over his last 10 starts for the Mets.
While the HR numbers may not matter as much considering Dickerson has only gone deep twice this season, it is important to note that historically over Dickerson’s 18 AB’s vs Scherzer, he did take him deep once while mustering a .278 batting average.
While most of those hits have been singles for Dickerson, it’s likely they go head-to-head on more than one occasion tonight as Scherzer has failed to go more than five innings in only one of his last 10 starts, so multiple AB’s are expected providing us with the opportunity to cash this bet and with Dickerson being hot at the plate collecting at least one hit in six straight games now, we love the value of this bet even more.
We can’t stress it enough, we totally get the pit in the stomach feeling when wagering against a guy like Mad Max, but he simply hasn’t been very Scherzer-like this season and we believe someone who is capable of putting the ball in play and who has had success throughout his career like Dickerson can be a sneaky good play tonight for us. We’re locking it in with no hesitation. Join us and do the same!
