Heading into the Wells Fargo Championship last week, Wyndham Clark had finished in the top six in three of the last five tournaments he played so it was only a matter of when he would get his first win on tour.
He ultimately finished four strokes clear of his nearest competitor and the win launched him to the top five in the FedExCup rankings and added nearly 50% to his career earnings.
This week, the tour heads to the Lone Star state just outside of Dallas for the AT&T Byron Nelson — the tour’s fourth of five total stops in Texas this year.

2023 AT&T Byron Nelson
May 11-14, 2023
TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, TX
Purse: $9,500,000
FedExCup Points: 500
Defending Champ: K.H. Lee
The AT&T Byron Nelson was first played in 1944 and originally known as the Dallas Open before taking the Lord Byron’s namesake in 1968 — it was the first PGA Tour tournament to honor a former professional golfer as such. The tournament is a 72 hole, stroke play, with cut down to the top 65 players and ties after 36 holes.
This week’s weather will likely play a factor, as every day has rain on the forecast which will likely result in high winds and potential delays for an extra challenge this week. Temperatures will top out in the low 80s.
What Course is the AT&T Byron Nelson Held At?
TPC Craig Ranch is located in McKinney, TX, northeast of Dallas and is relatively new to the PGA tournament scene — it only began hosting the tournament in 2021. The course was opened in 2004 and designed by major winner and Ohio State great Tom Weiskopf. The course features wide fairways, large greens and Rowlett Creek’s limestone banks cutting through 14 of the holes on the course.
The par 71 course is on the longer side measuring 7,468 yards. Despite the distance, the course is one of the easiest on tour — in the 2 years this has been played at TPC Craig Ranch the tournament winner, K.H. Lee averaged -26 to par but weather could change that drastically. Distance off the tee and putting will be two of the major factors this week to go low.

2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Pick: Scottie Scheffler Tournament Winner | +333 at BetMGM
Thursday, April 13, 2023
The juice almost isn’t even worth the squeeze on this pick but Scottie Scheffler knows how to win on tour. He is in the top 5 in Strokes Gained: Total, Off the Tee and Approach to Green. This tournament is Scottie’s to lose.
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Pick: Tom Kim Tournament Winner | +1400 at BetMGM
Thursday, April 13, 2023
This year Tom has not had the season he has wanted. After a hot start to his career in 2022, he has fallen short this year only finishing in the top 10 only 4 times this season. His putting has been the major factor holding him back but this could be just the course to get him back on track. The greens should be as easy as they come on tour. Combined with the weaker field this week, Tom Kim has the potential to get win number 2 on his career.
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Pick: Jason Day Tournament Winner | +1600 at BetMGM
Thursday, April 13, 2023
Jason Day missed the cut last week at the Wells Fargo Championship so will be well and rested ready to compete this week. He is 11 in Strokes Gained: Putting and 16 in total driving, 2 stats that will help go low this week.
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Pick: Top 5 Finish | BetMGM
Thursday, April 13, 2023
Tyrrell Hatton | +260
K.H. Lee | +450
Min Woo Lee | +500
K.H. Lee has won every tournament in his career at TPC Craig Ranch and no one else on tour has won at TPC Craig Ranch. It’s incredibly hard to 3 peat a tournament and is the reason for the fade here but K.H. Lee should find himself near the top of the field come Sunday.
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Pick: Top 10 Finish | BetMGM
Thursday, April 13, 2023
Hideki Matsuyama | +188
Matt Kuchar | +220
Taylor Montgomery | +320
I like Hedeki to play well this week but after the withdrawal due to neck pain last week, it is hard to have him in the top 5 let alone winning. If he is healthy, he is one of the best in the game and will be a lock for the top 10.
