While the debate about the best mullet on Tour will rage on, there is no debate about the best golfer at The Open Championship this past weekend because Cameron Smith was absolutely dominant.
He tied the low score to par in majors (-20) and is the only major champion to score two separate rounds of 64, doing so on Friday and Sunday.

Smith put on a putting clinic on Sunday, specifically on the back 9 making 5 straight birdies; at times it seemed like his putts could have been controlled by remote — breaking left, right, sometimes both, and more often than not, ending in the hole. This is Smith’s first major win, third of the season and sixth of his career.
This week the Tour heads back to the states to Blaine, Minnesota for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, which is the Tour’s only trip to the land of 10,000 lakes.
The 3M Open is one of the Tour’s newer tournaments beginning in 2019 and was preceded by a PGA Champions Tour stop, the 3M Championship from 2001 -2018.
It is a 72-hole stroke play tournament with a cut after 36 holes down to the top 65 players and ties. The weather is calling for sunshine this week and through the weekend so it shouldn’t play much of a factor.

The 3M Open is held at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. The course was designed by PGA Tour great, Arnold Palmer, with the help of former world No. 1 and Minnesota native, Tom Lehman.
The par 71, 7,431-yard course was built on a former sod farm and like most other Arnold Palmer-designed courses, it uses the area’s natural terrain in its design.
The course features 27 bodies of water that come into play on nearly every hole, which means driving accuracy will play a big factor this week along with play around the greens because where there isn’t water, you will likely find bunkers guarding approach shots.

The total purse of the 2022 3M Open is $7,500,000. The winner receives 500 FedEx Cup points and a minimum of 24 Official World Golf Ranking points — additional Official World Golf Ranking points can be added based on the tournament’s strength of field.
The champion also receives a two-season exemption on the PGA Tour, as well as inclusion in the 2023 Masters and 2023 PGA Championship, and the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Finish | Payout |
1 | $1,350,000 |
2 | $817,500 |
3 | $517,500 |
4 | $367,500 |
5 | $307,500 |
The tournament field is composed of 156 players and with it following The Open Championship, is not the strongest field. However, with FedEx Cup points on the line and only three tournaments left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, every win counts for players hoping to be in the top 125 of FedEx Cup standings.
There are only three of the top 25 and 13 of the top 100 Official World Golf Ranked players in the field this week.
The current odds favorite to win the 3M Open is Tony Finau (+1200), followed by Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama (+1600) and Sungjae Im (+1600) to round out the top three.

Rookie of the year candidate Sahith Theegala has been knocking on the door of his first tour win with five top-10 finishes this season. I think this is the tournament he breaks through

Look for Adam Long to take advantage of a weaker strength of field this week and break through for his first top-10 finish of the season.
Adam Hadwin has quietly had a strong season despite not winning since 2017; he has five top-10 finishes. Hadwin should take advantage of the weakened field this week and be a lock for the top 20.
